Such a fun time at the Wollaston School PTO Trunk or Treat! Loved seeing all the kids having fun in their costumes at my alma mater! I went as Dashing the Reindeer, one of Santa's reindeer who didn't make the cut.

I enjoyed stopping by the Dragon Boat Musuem this past Thursday for a Quincy Chamber of Commerce morning get-together. If you have not stopped by the museum, you should definitely try to do so. Peter Ng has an amazing vision for Quincy and this fascinating cultural tradition.

This past Monday, it was my honor to present an official commendation on behalf of Ward 3 and the City of Quincy to The Ruddercrew - our neighborhood band formerly known as the Rudder Kings.

These musicians have spent years giving their time, talent, and energy to community events, neighborhood gatherings, and parks across Quincy. They play the high-energy covers of rock, country, and soul that get people moving, singing along, and feeling at home together. Music like theirs doesn’t just entertain - it builds community.

Original members Kevin Coughlin, Matt Coughlin, Matthew Valencius, Janet O’Donoghue, Patrick Noe, and Conevery Valencius all come from or live right here in Ward 3. We also welcome new bass player Jim Carroll, whom I officially granted honorary Ward 3 resident status (no parking spot or taxes included).

We also paused to remember and honor beloved former member Leo Sullivan, who passed away in March 2025. Leo was a gifted musician, teacher, and mainstay of the local music scene whose contributions will not be forgotten.

Thank you to The Rudder Crew for everything you do for our neighborhood and our city. Keep playing. Keep bringing us together!

On Monday, I was proud to present a commendation to the Montclair/Wollaston Neighborhood Association (MWNA) for its 35th anniversary.

The association was founded on September 12, 1991, when neighbors gathered at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and gave Wollaston and Montclair a voice of their own. Howard and Janet Crowley, Jeff and Tricia Graeber, Everett and Denise Goodrich, Bob and Karen Petit, the Reverend Ross Goodman, and then-Ward 3 Councillor Larry Chretien were among those who started it. Jeff Graeber served as the first president.

For 35 years the MWNA has spoken up for the neighborhood: at the table when the Super Stop & Shop was proposed for the former Pneumatic Scale site, leading the drive of more than 1,200 signatures to keep the Wollaston Fire Station open, and helping protect the Zero Harriet Avenue property, an Area of Critical Environmental Concern, so it could be acquired with Community Preservation funds. It has also awarded scholarships for instruments and camperships, academic scholarships to North Quincy High graduates, and brought neighbors together at the Pumpkin Spice Festival at Bishop Field.

Thirty-five years is a long time for a volunteer organization to stay standing. This one did, because people kept showing up. Congratulations to the founders, officers, and members, past and present.

Street sweeping in Ward 3 - November 2nd to 23rd. I’d you see them in your area, please move your cars off the street when possible. This is an important step in keeping our storm drains and catch basins cleared to prevent flooding. Even small amounts of cardboard, plastic, and other materials can cause problems.

Street Sweeping Schedule

The City of Quincy prides itself on its clean streets. In this effort, we have a fall and spring street sweeping schedule. Having clean streets in our City not only provides an aesthetic appeal but prevents salt, sand, leaves, trash and other debris from filling our storm drains and preventing proper drainage. Since many of these storm drains empty out to our waterways and our beaches, the city wants to ensure we continually keep our streets clean.

The department will concentrate all of its street sweeping equipment into just one Ward at a time. This allows for the deployment of Highway Operations and construction crews weeks earlier.

Please remove your vehicles from the street during the week it will be swept. Electronic signs will be posted prior to sweeping.
