💥CAROLINE ROAD / US 23 Intersection

In response to recent questions brought on by the upcoming election, I would like to provide an update on where things currently stand with the Caroline Road/US 23 intersection and what residents can expect moving forward.

On June 3, I met with officials from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Raceland school officials to discuss the proposed improvements.

During that meeting, we were informed that the state plans to install a new traffic design known as an R-Cut intersection, with construction currently anticipated during the summer of 2027, before the beginning of the new school year.

This project was originally expected to take place this past summer but was delayed at the state level due to other construction priorities that needed to be completed first.

The proposed design comes after several years of traffic studies and evaluations. Similar intersections have been successfully implemented in other parts of Kentucky, particularly in high-traffic areas near schools. The goal is to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and increase safety for students, parents, and motorists.

Before construction begins, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to conduct a public information campaign in the spring of 2027 to help everyone understand how the new intersection will operate. This is expected to include a video demonstration and printed informational materials.

I want our citizens to know that this is a project I have been actively involved in and following closely with state and school officials. While the construction schedule and final implementation are ultimately determined by the state, I will continue communicating with the appropriate officials and sharing updates as information becomes available.

I understand that traffic and safety around our schools are important concerns for many families, and I appreciate everyone’s patience. As I have learned through working with state agencies, projects of this nature require considerable planning, coordination, and sometimes adjustments to the original timeline.

As of today, the summer of 2027 remains the anticipated construction timeframe.

The City of Raceland will continue to share information here on our official page as it becomes available so that residents can be informed and prepared well before these changes take place.

Thank you for your patience and your continued concern for the safety and well-being of our community.

Please share this information with your friends and neighbors as well.

LET’S KEEP MOVING FORWARD!

💥CITY ADMINISTRATOR💥

There have been inquiries about the state of the City Administrator position since Dustin Burchett has accepted a new job in Calvert City, Ky. I am happy to explain where things currently stand.

The primary reason we have not yet advertised the position is the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming municipal election and the potential changes in city leadership.

As mayor, my position has been, and continues to be, that we should fill the City Administrator position as soon as reasonably possible. I know I have the firm support of Councilman Mark Jobe in moving forward. However, other members of the Council have expressed opposition or reservations, and with the possibility of one or two new council members taking office, the makeup of the governing body could soon change.

If I am reelected, I fully intend to continue pursuing the appointment of a qualified City Administrator. However, if a new mayor is elected, that individual may have a different vision for the city’s administrative structure. Regardless of who serves as mayor, moving forward will require the support of the City Council.

My greatest concern is making a hiring decision now, only to have a newly elected mayor or council reconsider or eliminate the position shortly afterward. That would be neither fair nor responsible to the individual accepting the job. I believe we owe any prospective candidate a reasonable level of stability and confidence in the future of the position.

As I have stated before, I firmly believe that having a professional City Administrator overseeing the day-to-day operations of our city, working alongside a part-time mayor and the City Council, is the most effective and efficient way to continue moving Raceland forward.

This approach has played an important role in the progress and prosperity we have experienced over the past several years. I have no desire to abandon a structure that has helped us achieve meaningful results for our community. In fact, I believe maintaining that structure will allow us to accomplish even more in the years ahead.

My goal is not simply to fill a vacancy, but to ensure that whoever accepts this important responsibility has the support, stability, and opportunity necessary to succeed.

If you support or oppose this form of leadership please contact your council members and let them know how you would like for them to represent you.

I hope this provides some clarity regarding the reasons behind the timing of this decision.

LET’S KEEP MOVING FORWARD!

Thank you,

Mayor Tony Wilson
