The district hired the teacher over the summer after he interviewed presenting as a biological male and may have described himself as non-binary during the process, according to a legal warning letter from the Thomas More Society. Parents didnโt learn until classes started that their childrenโs only music teacher was now presenting as a woman โ or that the teacher had ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ค๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ญ๐บ โ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฌ๐บ ๐ด๐ธ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฆโ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐ด๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ธ๐ข๐ด ๐ข โ๐จ๐ช๐ณ๐ญโ to a female student in class.
The Supreme Court has twice affirmed parental rights over classroom gender lessons in the past 15 months, in the Mahmoud and Mirabelli rulings requiring districts to notify parents and let them opt their kids out. The families organized as Middle Creek Parental Rights are demanding Wake County apply that same standard here โ and stop disciplining children for refusing to call a male teacher โshe.โ The districtโs own policy lets principals reassign a student away from a teacher, but Middle Creek Elementary has ๐จ๐ง๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐๐ก๐๐ซ, so that escape hatch doesnโt exist.
At a school board meeting on the issue, one speaker didnโt bother arguing policy โ grandparent Katerina Day called for expelling the children of the ๐ฃ๐ช๐จ๐ฐ๐ต๐ด who dared ask for an opt-out. The firm gave Wake County 15 days to respond in writing or face a federal lawsuit. District and regional superintendents, the principal and the school board chair have all been contacted โ and none have responded. Several parents in the group wonโt even sign their own names to the letter, citing doxxing they believe came from ๐ด๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ฐ ๐ฐ๐ง๐ต๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐ธ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฌ๐ด ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ ๐๐๐๐๐, because in this school district, protecting your own kid is apparently the part that gets you targeted.
