🌿 Nearly 4 TONS of trash removed from a brand-new greenway in Rolesville! 🌎💚

In September, Wake County Big Sweep teamed up with our returning friends at Murphy’s Naturals and welcomed our newest partners, the Town of Rolesville, for an incredible community cleanup!

Together, over 40 volunteers removed an amazing 7,795 POUNDS of trash, including 45 tires! 😲

Some of the most memorable finds? A baby doll (as is tradition!), an old refrigerator, and a mattress and box spring!

This cleanup was especially meaningful because the greenway connects directly to a neighborhood, and residents were excited to see this new community space cleaned up and ready to enjoy. 🥾🌳

🌱 Trash out, native plants in! We also partnered with Plastic Ocean Project through their Trees 4 Trash program, which donates one native plant for every 25 pounds of trash removed. With 7,795 pounds collected, that’s the potential for 311 native plants to help give back to the environment!

A huge THANK-YOU to:
💚 Murphy's Naturals for rolling up their sleeves and making a difference.
💚 The Town of Rolesville, NC for partnering with us and providing equipment to help haul away the trash.
💚 GFL Environmental for supporting the cleanup with dumpsters.
💚 Plastic Ocean Project for helping turn trash removal into an opportunity for native plant restoration.

This is what Wake County Big Sweep is all about: neighbors, volunteers, businesses and community partners coming together to protect our local environment and create cleaner, healthier spaces for everyone to enjoy. We couldn't do it without you!

📸 Check out the photos from this amazing day and celebrate what we can accomplish when we work together!

has reached agreements with WakeMed Health & Hospitals and Atrium Health on all negotiated points discussed during the Sept. 21 Board of Commissioners meeting, enabling the strategic combination process between WakeMed and Atrium Health to move forward.

“We appreciate both hospitals working closely with our board to cement the details of this important agreement,” said Board Chair Don Mial. “Through fruitful negotiations, we have firm commitments to limit reimbursement rates, increase indigent care from a minimum of 4.8% to a minimum of 8%, invest $150 million in a new Wake County Whole Health Program and ensure the $2 billion in investments in WakeMed comes solely from Atrium Health.”

Our water is all connected, and the choices we make every day can help protect it for generations to come. Here are a few simple ways to put the One Water approach into practice.

🌼 Plant native flowers and plants: Native plants need less water and are great habitat for wildlife.

🚽 Fix a leak: Repairing leaky faucets and toilets saves water and lowers your water bill.

💧 Install a rain barrel: Collected rainwater can be used to water plants or wash your car and reduces demand on our drinking water supply.

🌱 Compost food and yard waste: Composting reduces landfill waste, enriches soil and helps soil hold moisture.

🗑️ Join a stream cleanup: Removing trash and plastic from streams keeps our waterways clean.

🌳 Plant a tree: Trees improve water quality, provide shade and support a healthier community.
