🎉 Mitchell Community College recently celebrated a major milestone for one of its newest health sciences programs with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new home of its Dental Assisting Program. The program is located in the Workforce Development campus in Statesville.

“The opening of this facility represents an exciting investment in the future of healthcare education and workforce development in our community,” said Tim Brewer, president of Mitchell Community College.

🎉 Sandhills Community College recently announced the opening of its new Workforce Trades Building to support the region's demand for skilled workers and provide hands-on training that can lead to immediate employment and long-term career opportunities.

Last week, SCC was joined by the Raeford/Hoke Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the opening of the building with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

🤝 Haywood Community College and North Carolina A&T State University have officially entered into an articulation agreement for HCC’s Natural Resources programs to provide direct entry into NC A&T’s Agricultural Education Program. 🙌

Transfer is possible after completion of a Forest Management Technology or Fish and Wildlife Management Technology degree at Haywood Community College.

“Every credit a student earns at one of our colleges should count toward where they’re headed. When credits don’t transfer, students pay for it with time and money they don’t have,” said Dr. Monty Sullivan, Acting President & CEO of the NC Community College System. “NCICU Transfer Pathways shows students the road before they start down it. That’s two- and four-year schools working together for students.”

Wheels up in Kinston. ✈️ Dr. Monty Sullivan took the controls of a flight simulator this morning at Lenoir Community College's Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center for Excellence, with Rep. Chris Humphrey along for the ride.

It's the same sim where LCC aviation students log training time toward their pilot certificates, at a center built to launch Eastern North Carolina students into aviation and aerospace careers right here at the North Carolina Global TransPark.

Thanks to LCC President Dr. Rusty Hunt for the tour, and to everyone who joined us: Rep. John Bell and Rep. Steve Tyson, former Sen. Jim Perry (whose name is on the building), and State Board of Community Colleges members Robbie Moore and Terry Yeargan.

🙌 In the last several years, Western Piedmont Community College has revamped the scope and quality of student support services.

❝I think it sends a message to the community that we are doing something,” said Tou Vang, WPCC’s dean of student services, of the college’s programs this year. “We are really trying to kind of make steps to change and give students more opportunities.❞

North Carolina employers facing an impending worker shortage, especially in rural areas, are hoping a state push to train more young people, especially through community colleges, pays off. 🙌

Leaders at the helm of the effort say the community college system has been a vital part of working toward the goal, as many schools have introduced programs to aid in student success in the classroom, degree attainment and connecting students and job-seekers with employers in rural areas. 👏
