What an incredible honor for Quentin Cash, NCSFA Past President and North Carolina’s fire service representative on the National Volunteer Fire Council! Quentin was invited to attend a special luncheon in the White House Rose Garden with President Donald Trump honoring our nation’s first responders.

During the event, President Trump was presented with a special fire helmet and shield as a token of appreciation for his support in securing occupational cancer coverage under the Public Safety Officers’ Benefits program. This important recognition helps ensure that firefighters and their families receive the benefits they deserve when occupational cancer results in a line-of-duty death or disability.

We are proud to have Quentin representing North Carolina’s fire service at the national level and grateful for his continued dedication to firefighters across our state and nation.

Congratulations on 50 years of service, Chief Haithcock!

Five decades of dedication, commitment, and service to your community and the fire service is truly something to be proud of. Your leadership, experience, and willingness to serve have undoubtedly made a lasting impact on countless lives and the fire service along the way.

This month marks 50 years since Pete Haithcock joined Franklin Fire & Rescue.

Pete came on in 1976 and later served as Franklin’s first full time fire chief. When his time as chief ended, he stayed with the department as a volunteer. He is still an active member today.

Some of our firefighters have known Pete as their chief. Others have only ever known him as the guy who keeps showing up and helping out. We’re grateful for all 50 years, Pete, and glad we still get to serve alongside you.

If you have a story about Pete, we’d love to read it in the comments. If you have a photo of him from his younger days, please share it too. We’d especially love to see those early years.

Twenty-five years later, the fire service still continues to feel the impact of September 11, 2001.

For those who served that day, those who watched from firehouses across the country, and those who joined the fire service in the years that followed, 9/11 forever changed what it means to answer the call.

As we mark the 25th anniversary, members of the NCSFA Board of Directors reflect on where they were that day and how September 11th shaped the fire service we know today.

We remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, the first responders who answered without hesitation, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

The courage, sacrifice, and commitment to others remain a part of the fire service today.

We Will Never Forget. ❤
