Jim McCleskey recently retired after 30 years with the state of North Carolina, including 23 years as Director of the North Carolina Washington Office. Appointed by five governors over seven terms, McCleskey served as a vital liaison between North Carolina and the federal government.

Throughout his career, he was a constant partner to counties and local governments — making connections, facilitating conversations, and helping advance North Carolina’s priorities in Washington. We’re grateful for his decades of service and commitment to counties and communities across North Carolina.
