Our deepest condolences are with the family, friends and fellow firefighters of the Durham firefighter who lost his life battling a fire this morning.

We are also thinking of the two firefighters who were injured and wishing them a full recovery.

Our NCDOI Criminal Investigations Division special agents are assisting with the investigation alongside the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation , Durham County Sheriff's Office , Durham Fire Department and other agencies.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey offered his deepest sympathies to the firefighters' families:

“Firefighters risk their lives every day to protect us, and this terrible tragedy is a stark reminder of the dangers of first responder jobs," said Commissioner Causey. "Our team of sworn agents will do anything needed to help the agencies in this investigation.”

Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragedy.

Join us in congratulating Sandra Martin on her appointment as a full time Administrative Assistant with our Criminal Investigations Division!

Sandra has been a part of our team for several years in a temporary role, and we are excited to officially welcome her as a full time NCDOI employee in our Gastonia Regional Office.

Sandra also brings plenty of creativity to the workplace. She’s already getting into the Halloween spirit with a spooky tree and a pair of custom Halloween pants she made herself! 🎃

If you’re in the Gastonia area, stop by our regional office to see Sandra and learn more about the many services NCDOI provides to North Carolina consumers.

Congratulations, Sandra!

Last week, members of the Piedmont Chapter of the North Carolina Insurance Crime Information Exchange (NCICIE) met at Guil-Rand Fire Department in Archdale for their September meeting.

Our NCDOI Special Agent Jerry Coble, who serves as the Chapter President, welcomed members and helped facilitate another great opportunity for professionals involved in the fight against insurance fraud to connect, share information, and learn from one another.

A special thank you to Jarrett Laws with N.C. Farm Bureau, President of the International Association of Special Investigation Units NC Chapter (IASIU-NC), who served as our guest speaker. Jarrett provided an informative presentation on the CIFI (Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator) program, including the certification process and continuing education requirements.

NCICIE provides an opportunity for law enforcement, insurance industry professionals, fire investigators, prosecutors, and other partners involved in combating insurance fraud to network, share investigative information, learn about emerging fraud trends, and build partnerships that make a difference in the fight against insurance fraud across North Carolina.

If you work in or around the Greensboro/Piedmont area and are interested in learning more about NCICIE or becoming involved with the Piedmont Chapter, reach out to Jerry Coble at [email protected]

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lenoir County deputies, their families, fellow law enforcement officers and everyone affected by this tragic incident.

The North Carolina Department of Insurance responded to assist with the investigation, and Senior Special Agent Craig Jarman was there on behalf of our agency and his fellow officers.

We appreciate Craig for stepping up to help and for representing NCDOI during a difficult time. We are grateful for the law enforcement community members who continue to stand together and support one another.

When deputies arrived on scene a man came out of a home and shot at deputies hitting one in the stomach.

My heartfelt sympathy to Governor Jim Martin on the loss of first lady Dottie Martin. I remember her as a most gracious first lady passionate about wildflowers and led the way to persuade the General Assembly to create the North Carolina Wildflower Program under NCDOT.
