Congratulations to every first responder honored at the Fuquay Varina Local Heroes Breakfast, including our own Deputy J. Donnelly.

Earlier this year, sudden gunfire erupted in the alley between the Wake County Courthouse and the Federal Courthouse in downtown Raleigh, NC; two victims were struck. Several WCSO deputies heard gunfire and immediately responded.

Deputy Donnelly was among the first to respond. After confirming that the victims were receiving aid and the suspect was detained, he shifted his focus to securing the scene and preserving evidence. He ensured the areas in front of the Wake County Justice Center and the Wake County Courthouse were secured.

Thank you, Fuquay Varina Local Heroes, for recognizing Deputy Donnelly.

A kitten on a highway. Cars flying past at 70 mph. When Wake County Deputy Devin Richardson saw her darting along a concrete barrier, he pulled over and ran back into traffic, hoping he wasn’t too late.

He found her tucked into a gap in the barrier, crying.

From there, her journey took her through the Wake County Animal Center and into the care of SPCA Wake.

But her story wasn’t over yet. Because someone couldn’t stop thinking about her.
