I’m enormously grateful to have had the opportunity to keynote the Conference for North Carolina Nonprofits last week, where some 700 nonprofit leaders gathered.

These leaders are the unsung heroes of our communities. They’re working tirelessly to do more with less and to ensure that every North Carolinian has an opportunity to succeed and doesn’t fall through the cracks.

They are the backbone of our society. They're essential not only to providing critical services, but to building communities rooted in inclusion, trust, and belonging.

Many thanks to the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits, Duke Energy Foundation, Ivan Canada and everyone who helped bring this gathering together. It was wonderful to be with so many leaders who are doing such vital work across the state.

Still thinking about employee benefit renewals? We are, too.

At last week's Breakfast & Benefits conference session, nonprofit leaders brought thoughtful questions about benefits, insurance, budgets, employee needs, and the options they’re weighing right now.

Because it's all about figuring out what works for your organization and your people.

What an incredible few days at last week's Conference for NC Nonprofits! Once again, our time together was a powerful reminder that being in community matters. It gave us a chance to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new friends, and talk honestly about the realities of our work while celebrating what’s happening in communities across North Carolina.

Throughout the conversations, a few things stood out...

🤝We do our best work in community. Building relationships, learning from one another, and working across organizations and sectors helps us tackle challenges that none of us can solve alone.

💬Trust takes intention. Whether we’re working with community members, partnering with other organizations, or leading our own teams, trust grows when we listen, show up, and make room for different perspectives.

💚Our well-being matters, too. Taking care of ourselves, supporting our teammates, and leaning on our communities helps us sustain this work for the long haul.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared your experiences, and helped make these conversations meaningful. We’re glad to be part of this community with you!

’Tis the season. Not just for pumpkin spice and jump scares, but also for employee benefits renewals.

We get it and we’re right there with you as we're starting our own renewal process. There are options to sort through, numbers to compare, and plenty of questions along the way.

We're grateful for the people who know the ins and outs, like our partners at Life at Marsh McLennan Agency, The Hartford, OneAmerica Financial, Blue Cross NC, and Mutual of America Financial Group who are always on tap to help us (and other nonprofits) make sense of it all.

If you’re planning for or working through your renewal right now, here’s a place to start: https://bit.ly/3XfglUa

And if you’ll be at our Conference for NC Nonprofits next week, join us for Breakfast & Benefits on Tuesday morning. Grab some breakfast, bring your questions, and connect with the folks who can help.

A lot can happen in two days when nonprofit leaders get together.

At this year’s Conference for North Carolina Nonprofits, we've planned time for learning from experts and nonprofit practitioners, ideas swapping with people navigating many of the same challenges and opportunities, and building connections that can carry back into your work.

We hope you'll join us in less than two weeks on October 20–21 in Concord! https://conference.ncnonprofits.org

Nonprofits help people plan for all kinds of things: appointments, applications, school schedules, work, you name it. Voting can use a little planning, too.

Share information about Early Voting, voting by mail, and Election Day so people can make a plan to vote that works for them. https://ncnonprofits.org/blog/dont-wait-vote-early

*Why it matters* A little planning now can make it easier for voters to participate during Early Voting (Oct 15-31) or on Election Day (Nov 3).
