Congratulations, Special Agent Anthony Marsh! Keep up the great work!

We are proud to announce that Special Agent Anthony Marsh has earned our Criminal Investigations Division's Case of the Quarter Award for the Third Quarter of 2026! Anthony was recently presented with the award during CID’s annual in-service training at Fort Fisher.

The Case of the Quarter Award recognizes exceptional investigative efforts that advance CID’s mission, provide substantial benefits to the citizens of North Carolina, or make a significant positive impact on the insurance industry.

Special Agent Marsh’s investigation demonstrates this commitment. Through an exhaustive review of more than 14,000 pages of documentation and the ex*****on of multiple search warrants for medical, banking, cellphone, and location data records, Special Agent Marsh conducted a thorough and meticulous investigation that ultimately exonerated a suspect. His comprehensive 20-page investigative narrative documents each aspect of the investigative process and demonstrates the diligence, professionalism, and attention to detail required to pursue the truth.

Not every investigation results in an arrest or criminal prosecution, and our division recognizes that establishing someone’s innocence is just as important as proving someone’s guilt. For this reason, CID uniquely tracks investigative outcomes that include exonerations, in addition to arrests, convictions, and restitution.

Special Agent Marsh’s work is a powerful reminder that our mission is not simply to build cases, but to seek the truth, protect the innocent, and serve the citizens of North Carolina.

After 30 years of dedicated service to NCDOI, Deputy Commissioner Jeff Trendel is retiring!

Since joining the Department in 1996, Jeff has helped strengthen North Carolina’s insurance regulatory framework, modernize laws, and protect consumers.

We celebrated Jeff’s career today as Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey presented him with the Old North State Award and a Certificate of Retirement. Representative Dean Arp, Jeff’s college friend, also presented him with an award.

Among his many accomplishments, Jeff helped develop regulatory frameworks for professional employer organizations, captive insurance companies, and prepaid health plans. He also led efforts to modernize the state’s Continuing Care Retirement Community laws, helped uncover a $39 million workers’ compensation reinsurance fraud scheme, and guided the successful supervision of Aldersgate Retirement Community to protect its residents. His contributions have earned him several professional honors, including the prestigious Harry E. Groves Medal of Honor.

Thank you, Jeff, for three decades of leadership and service to North Carolina. Congratulations on your retirement, and best wishes for this next chapter!

Our NCDOI team had a great time at the Mount Airy Autumn Leaves Festival! 🍂

Our team connected with hundreds of community members and handed out disaster preparedness materials, along with information about insurance and the services we offer.
