A cold front moving through the region has triggered a windy, much colder weather pattern.
β€’ Sustained Winds: Northwest winds are tracking between 15 and 30 mph throughout the daytime hours. As of 5:00 AM MDT, the National Weather Service at Sheridan County Airport (KSHR) already clocked sustained speeds at 24 mph.
β€’ Peak Gusts: Wind gusts are expected to frequently surpass 40 to 45+ mph, creating a noticeable wind chill down into the 30s despite an actual high temperature of around 54Β°F.
β€’ Timeline: The highest winds will persist through the afternoon before steadily subsiding overnight.

Immediate Impacts & Precautions

β€’ πŸ’¨ Securing Property: Loose outdoor items like patio furniture, trash cans, and Halloween decorations should be anchored or brought indoors.
β€’ πŸš— High-Profile Vehicles: Drivers on regional routes should prepare for sudden crosswinds. You can check live travel impacts and closures via the WYDOT 511 Road Conditions Map.
β€’πŸ”₯🚫 The burn ban for Sheridan County is still in place. Winds will stir up the two recent burn scarsin Sheridan county, pushing the lose dirt around. If working outside make sure your fire aware and have water close by. With increased winds come potential for rapid fire growth.
β€’ 🌑️ Temperature Drop: Winds shift south overnight, but clear skies will cause temperatures to plummet to a freezing low of around 20Β°F to 27Β°F by Friday morning.
Weather patterns will clear up significantly heading into the weekend, with calm conditions and sunny skies pushing temperatures back into the 70s by Saturday.

Message from the County Fire Warden Chris Thomas regarding the PK Fire.

PK fire update: The fire received moisture most of yesterday. Crews yesterday mopped up the dozer berms with heat in them with help from a County blade. We were able to do a little more rolling back of the fireline berms on contingency lines along the Beckton road until the ground got too greasy to work.
The woody draw continues to have heat in there with cottonwood trees and brush burning well interior to the fire. The plan now is to monitor the fire and let that woody draw burn itself out over the next few days and weeks. Burning cottonwood trees can fall at any time so we do not want to risk putting firefighters into the draw at this time. If the weather changes and we need to do additional work around the woody draw beyond what we can handle, we are in talks with the State for resources to help with that.

I also want to thank everyone that helped out with this incident. None of us could do this alone and we are truly blessed with folks from many agencies that come together in times of need and work well together to get the job done.

Congratulations to the TRMS Girls Volleyball team on your District Championship!

This fire is at 80% contained and has been mapped at 1,645 acres. We thank everyone that helped to get this under control and stop spreading.

To watch, and be apart of, the multi agency effort was truly amazing. When we can step back for a few minutes and look at the whole picture, it is so remarkable how we can all come together to help our communities.

Thank you to the community members that helped with suppression efforts as well.

HUGE shout out to The Parkman Bar and Grill for having the most amazing breakfast for the firefighters yesterday morning. The support from our locals durring times like that is truly a blessing. All of the firefighters appreciated the breakfast. Thank you so much.
