Child Action We're a non-profit empowering families and child care professionals with the tools and support services needed to successfully care for children since 1976.

We believe that parents are best able to choose the child care that meets their particular family situation. It is our goal to provide parents with information on a broad range of child care services, as well as ways to assess these services. We can provide information about child care and child development services as it is available, but we do not make recommendations. The choice of care remains with the parent. We are not responsible for arrangements between parents and providers.

What keeps families working and helps children build a strong foundation for the future? Quality child care.

Our CEO, Adonai Mack, joined the Sacramento Observer's The Advance Guard podcast to discuss why child care is essential infrastructure and why lasting investment matters.

Supporting child care providers means supporting the people who help shape children’s futures. Through resources, education, and professional development, Child Action helps providers strengthen the care and early learning experiences they offer.

Families, providers, and children deserve a system they can count on. Thank you to The Sacramento Observer for highlighting what’s at stake for our community.

California's legislative session is a wrap, and families and child care providers have six new wins to celebrate.

This year, we worked with lawmakers and partners to turn the real challenges families and providers face into solutions. Here's what's changing:

✍️ Families can sign child care paperwork online (SB 902, co-sponsored by Child Action)
🏘️ It's easier to open child care centers in the neighborhoods where families live (SB 299)
🏢 New opportunities for child care in state office buildings (AB 2006)
🤝 A faster path to child care for children in foster care (SB 1051)
💵 Continued progress toward rates that reflect the true cost of care (AB 1981)
📋 Less red tape for family child care providers, plus more time to prepare for new training requirements (AB 190)

Thank you to Governor Gavin Newsom, Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón, Speaker Robert Rivas, and the California Legislative Women's Caucus for their leadership.

There's more work ahead to make quality child care accessible for every family, and we'll keep bringing your experiences to the Capitol.

Every child deserves to grow up knowing their culture is valued and they belong. 💙

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities, including the families, child care providers, and colleagues who help our Sacramento community thrive.

We’re proud to serve families and providers whose diverse cultures, languages, and experiences enrich our community. Our commitment means honoring those experiences, strengthening connections, and expanding access to child care that meets families’ needs, helping every child have the support and opportunity to thrive.

Head Start is facing big changes, and we need your help to protect it.

The Administration has proposed replacing Head Start's current standards with a much shorter set of rules. Cutting red tape is a good goal, but some of these changes would remove protections young children count on.

If the rule moves forward, it could mean:

🧑‍🏫 Bigger classes with more kids per teacher
🚫 Young children suspended or expelled from preschool
🗣️ No chance to learn in the language they speak at home
📚 Fewer training requirements for teachers
💵 Less money reaching the classroom

Even if your family doesn't use Head Start, these standards help set the bar for quality early learning in our community.

Commenting is quick. Child Care Aware of America's template walks you through it, and sharing what these changes would mean for your family, program, or community makes your comment count.
