Spent some time at Cory-Rawson Schools this afternoon passing out candy to the kids during the trick or treat parade in the schools hallway.

Always a great time when there is candy to be handed out!!

A reminder that all three stations will be out tomorrow evening for community trick or treating in the villages of Jenera, Rawson and Mount Cory.

Stop by the stations in the Villages of Jenera and Mount Cory after you gather your candy treats for donuts and apple c***r!!

The crews will be handing out candy at the trucks staged throughout Rawson!

Be safe and remember to replace your smoke detectors batteries and or your smoke detectors if they are older than 10 years!!!

We spent today teaching and talking about the importance of fire safety!

Your SHJFD Firefighters talked to kids at Cory-Rawson Schools, we covered Pre-K through 6th grade classes. We also spoke with the ESC classes and the Findlay YMCA daycare kids at Cory-Rawson.

We covered the importance of working smoke detectors, an exit plan, practicing the exit plan, a family meeting place and the importance of communication to the first responders!!

Our message was delivered to roughly 265 students, teachers and daycare kids.

Thank you to the administration of Cory-Rawson Local Schools for scheduling time out of the classroom to allow us to deliver the importance of fire safety!!!

Today we tackled the daunting task of our annual hose testing and inspection.

The importance of this task is a high priority for the safety of our firefighters and having adequate safe equipment to protect the properties of our communities!

After each incident we inspect, clean and dry the fire hose throughout the year.

We tested the following:

1200' of 3"
5700' of 2 1/2"
6420' of 1 3/4"
1700' of new 1 3/4" placed into service

Total: 15020'

Hose failure:
150' of 2 1/2"
300' of 1 3/4"

Total: 450'

Hose removed due to age/condition
400' of 1 1/2"

Fire safety and fire safety education is a priority here at SHJFD.

I am exploring options for our fire district to have an added tool for teaching fire safety to our youth and families of SHJFD.

This inflatable fire safety house can be used indoors at our local schools as well as our future open house events to be held at our stations.

If you would feel inclined to donate to this cause, please comment, send us a direct message or contact the fire chief directly.

The estimated expense to purchase this helpful educational tool is $7,000.00.

The announcement of today's AFG award will bring $63,700.00 back to the SHJFD fire district tax payers and our dedicated firefighters.

This afternoon we have officially accepted the grant award!

As the grant equipment list includes requests for combination nozzles both 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" (5) total. Followed with 3,225' of 5" supply hose, 3,000' of 2 1/2" supply/attack hose and 1,500' of 1 3/4" attack hose.

Water movement, tanker shuttles and pump operations for training this past Tuesday night. Photos and videos compliments of a new tool for SHJFD, a drone!!!

The drone and accessories were donated to the fire district and firefighters by a great man, a man of integrity, a heart of gold and a love/passion for the first responders!!
