At our September Agency Board Meeting, Town of Webb Supervisor Tom Greco joined us for a Community Spotlight focused on the opportunities and challenges facing small Adirondack communities — from infrastructure and housing to economic development and navigating partnerships across agencies.

Community Spotlights help the Agency hear directly from local leaders about the work happening in their communities and where stronger connections can help.

Supporting vibrant hamlets, strengthening partnerships and helping municipalities navigate resources are important parts of our work across the Adirondack Park.

Today, we remember the lives lost on 9/11/2001, and honor the North Country residents who answered the call in the aftermath.

Forest Rangers, NYS Troopers, firefighters, and even ironworkers from Akwesasne helped with recovery efforts at Ground Zero.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, we pause here in the Adirondacks to join New Yorkers and communities across the nation in remembrance.

We honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders and public servants who answered the call, and all those whose lives were forever changed by the attacks.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their lives, their service and their sacrifice. We will never forget.

The Agency has launched two new public facing mapping resources designed to make Agency data easier to find, understand and use. The upgrades include Lookup Lite, an interactive mapping application, and an improved APA Arc GIS Hub website, which provides streamlined access to the Agency's publicly available datasets.

Together, the tools expand public access to Adirondack Park geographic information system (GIS) data while offering different levels of functionality for residents, property owners, local government officials, researchers and other users.

The Adirondack Park Agency has upgraded its GIS data system to be more user-friendly.

Hey, ! Here’s your backcountry report. Conditions can change rapidly going into the weekend.

🔦 Don’t get left in the dark! Not having a light source is one of the most common causes of search and rescues.
✔️ Have a Plan B! Backup plans prepared ahead of time encourage you to adapt to changing conditions.
😎 Bring salty snacks or electrolytes to help with hydration. Water can only go so far, and electrolyte imbalances from overhydration can also be dangerous.
🕷️ Ticks are active– stay on trail and wear light, long, tucked-in sleeves to prevent and detect them.

🌜 Sunrise = 6:05 a.m.; Sunset = 7:52 p.m.

General Notices:
👀 Bear cans are required by overnight users in the Eastern High Peaks until November 30.

Today, the Adirondack Park Agency joins New Yorkers across the state in celebrating five years of Governor Kathy Hochul’s leadership as Governor!

Over the past five years, Gov. Hochul has demonstrated a strong commitment to New York’s communities and natural resources by championing investments that strengthen local economies, protecting the environment, and creating opportunities for generations to come.

Here in the Adirondack Park, we are proud to help advance that vision and grateful for the Governor’s continued commitment to the people and places that make this region so special.
