Raynham Fire Department Shares Severe Weather Safety Tips Ahead of Weekend Storm: With a storm expected to bring rain and strong winds to Massachusetts this weekend, the Raynham Fire Department would like to remind residents to take steps now to prepare and stay safe.

Before the storm, residents should take precautions to ensure their homes and families are prepared for the weather. Create or review your family emergency plan, particularly if you live in an area prone to flooding, and make sure your emergency kit is stocked. Be prepared in the event you lose electricity for multiple days.

Emergency kits should include flashlights, extra batteries, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, first-aid supplies, necessary medications, important documents, water and other essential items.

Residents should also charge cellphones and other electronic devices before the storm and secure or bring inside outdoor furniture, decorations and other objects that could be blown around by strong winds.

Before and during the storm, monitor local weather forecasts and emergency alerts, as conditions can change quickly.

During periods of severe weather, avoid unnecessary travel and never drive through flooded roadways. Stay away from downed trees, power lines and utility wires, and always assume a downed wire is live.

If local officials issue an evacuation order, leave immediately and follow all instructions from public safety officials. Bring only essential items, documents and pets, if possible.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Raynham Police and Fire Departments Respond to Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Route 44

RAYNHAM — Police Chief David LaPlante and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita report that the Raynham Police and Fire Departments responded to a crash that killed an 18-year-old pedestrian Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, at about 6:15 a.m., the Raynham Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to 430 New State Highway (Route 44) for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Crews arrived to find an 18-year-old male from Brockton who had been struck by a vehicle. Raynham Fire crews provided immediate medical care at the scene, then transported him to Boston Medical Center – South in Brockton, where he was later pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a Honda CR-V, driven by a 37-year-old man from Taunton, was traveling west on Route 44 when it struck the pedestrian as he crossed the street.

The driver remained at the scene. Brewster Ambulance transported the driver and a passenger to Morton Hospital in Taunton to be evaluated.

The crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Raynham Police Department, including its Detective Division.

All further media inquiries should be directed to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
