The Raytown Police Department has announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with yesterday’s homicide.

On behalf of the Raytown Fire Protection District, we recognize and thank our partners at Raytown Police for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to keeping our community safe.

This is a reminder of the strong partnership between law enforcement, fire, EMS, and the community we serve. We stand together, support one another, and remain committed to protecting Raytown.

To our community: you are not alone. Please continue to look out for your neighbors, check on those who may be struggling, and support the families and loved ones who are grieving. There is strength in coming together.

While this arrest is an important step, many are still hurting. Our hearts remain with everyone affected by this tragedy.

After 16 years of dedicated service to Raytown, Captain Lee Zebel is retiring.

Captain Zebel spent 8 years serving with Raytown EMS, followed by 8 years with the Raytown Fire Protection District.

His career also represents an important part of Raytown’s public-safety history. In 2018, Raytown EMS transitioned under the Raytown Fire Protection District, officially creating the integrated fire-based EMS system that serves the community today. On November 17, 2018, the Fire District assumed responsibility for Raytown’s EMS operations.

Captain Zebel was part of that journey — serving through the transition and continuing to answer the call as a member of the Raytown Fire Protection District.

Reflecting on his career, Captain Zebel said:

“I’m just very thankful to have been able to work here. It was by far the best job I’ve ever had! It’s been an honor working beside true heroes!”

For 16 years, Captain Zebel has served alongside the men and women of Raytown’s emergency services, responding when people needed help most and building relationships with the colleagues who became family.

Captain Zebel, thank you for your years of service, dedication, leadership, sacrifice, and commitment to the Raytown community.

From Raytown EMS to Raytown Fire — thank you for answering the call.

Congratulations on your retirement, Captain Zebel. Enjoy the next chapter — you’ve earned it! 🚒👏

“9/11 is really what kind of inspired me to actually become a firefighter…So the best way that we can honor these people is by continuing to serve our communities in the way that they served on that day” — Chief Rogers

This evening, Chief Rogers, along with members of the Raytown Fire Protection District, had the honor of attending the Annual Kansas City 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

On this 25th anniversary, we gathered alongside fellow first responders, community leaders, veterans, and members of the community to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who answered the call.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice. We also recognize the men and women who continue to serve and protect our communities every day.
