So glad I could attend this incredible event, so many good things happening in our community.

I had a great evening at Centro Hispano’s Taste of the Caribbean at Casa de la Amistad in Reading.

The evening brought together friends, families, and supporters of Centro Hispano to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through Caribbean food, culture, and community.

The event also highlighted an important reminder: behind every immigration story is a family. A mother, a father, children, neighbors, and members of our churches and community.

We heard the story of the Cano family from Berks County, a Colombian family who came to the United States seeking safety, peace, and the opportunity to build a better future for their daughters. After the father and oldest daughter were detained while traveling, their family faced separation, legal challenges, and significant financial hardship.

Thankfully, the Cano family is now heading home. Their story is a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to pray, offer support, share a story, and help a family through a difficult time.

Regardless of where we stand on immigration policy, we can all stand for treating people with humanity and keeping families together whenever possible.

Thank you to Michael Toledo and the entire Centro Hispano team for being a lifeline for our community and for the important work you continue to do.
