Reading Coalition for Prevention & Support

Call Directions Website

Reading Coalition for Prevention & Support We have many of the pieces in place, including a dedicated and diverse Reading Coalition Board, and highly qualified staff.

We are a coalition of youth & adults living and working in Reading, MA who promote a safe, healthy, vibrant community in which everyone makes healthy decisions and ensures that today's resources shape tomorrow's strengths. There have been many strides to reduce risky behaviors amongst Reading teenagers including a strong commitment from involved parents, dynamic educators, student support professionals, school leaders, committed coaches, faith leaders, afterschool professionals, healthcare workers, and other caring adults. “Progress is being made but as a community we have much more to do. Additional recognition by the broader community of youth substance abuse issues will be a key to further success.”

Taunya Jarzyniecki, our Public Safety Clinician, joined us in 2022 after Town Meeting approved adding a mental health clinician to the department 💛

As a dually licensed mental health and alcohol/drug provider, she brought invaluable skills to our team 🗨️

She has changed the game in how we support mental health across Reading 🌟

Taunya redefined what it means to integrate mental health into public safety 💙

Here in town, she offers follow‑up to individuals and families who called 911 for mental health or substance misuse support 🚨

She supports the well‑being of officers and department staf👮‍♀️

She counsels children, teens, and adults 🧠🏫

She teaches Mental Health First Aid, helping residents understand the importance of early support 🤝

She serves on NEMLEC STARS, a regional team that provides mental health support following crises ✨

We are grateful for all she brings to Reading 💛

🧠 106 students. 5 classes. One goal: Teach Teen Mental Health First Aid. Our co instructors are in week 3 of 7 and students are locked in. Teen Mental Health First Aid is co taught by Jess Cruz, Outreach Coordinator, and Mrs. Hopkinson, Health Educator at RMHS. This year’s program includes new material and improvements, and students are putting their skills to work. Great job to our first aid team and to every student participating in Mrs. Hop's and Mrs. Fiorello's classes!

👏Congrats to Jess Cruz, Employee of the 3rd Quarter at the Reading Police Department! 🎉Deputy Chief Amendola recognized that Jess was a key part of our summer Youth Academy, spending every day guiding, motivating, and teaching our teens. We are grateful for all she brings to the kids of Reading and to the department each day. 💙 Well deserved, Jess! 🌟
