🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 💗

The fountain at the Pennsylvania State Capitol has turned pink once again to honor those who have battled breast cancer and those who continue to fight.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, excluding skin cancers, and the second leading cause of cancer death among women.

This pink reminder highlights the importance of regular mammograms and early detection. Early detection saves lives!

Pennsylvania offers a Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program that may help eligible women who are uninsured or underinsured access screenings.

Learn more about the program and eligibility: https://www.pa.gov/agencies/health/diseases-conditions/cancer/pa-bccedp

Let’s raise awareness, support those affected and encourage everyone to prioritize their health!

🇺🇸 Supporting Families of Fallen Law Enforcement Officers

I proudly joined my colleagues in unanimously supporting House Bill 911, legislation that would protect health insurance coverage for the families of municipal police officers killed in the line of duty.

The bill would provide lifetime health insurance coverage for surviving spouses and coverage for dependent children until age 26, bringing these benefits in line with those available to families of Pennsylvania State Police troopers killed in the line of duty.

When an officer makes the ultimate sacrifice, their family deserves our support. They should never have to worry about losing access to health insurance while grieving their loved one.

HB 911 now awaits consideration by the Senate. I urge its passage! 🚔

My heart goes out to the Philadelphia Police Department and the family of Officer Shane Seiber, who was killed in the line of duty in a senseless act of violence. I am also praying for his partner, who was seriously wounded in this horrific ambush, and for his family as he fights to recover.

As a former sheriff, I know the dangers law enforcement officers face every day as they put their lives on the line to protect our communities. No officer should have to face this kind of violence simply for answering the call to serve.

Please keep these officers, their families and the entire Philadelphia law-enforcement community in your thoughts and prayers.

May Officer Seiber rest in peace. We will never forget his sacrifice. 🇺🇸💙

Fall, Winter Trout Stocking Underway

Now through mid-December, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) will be conducting its fall and winter trout stocking at dozens of waterways across the Commonwealth.

PFBC will stock approximately 114,700 hatchery-raised adult Rainbow, Brown and Brook Trout in 117 stream sections and lakes. These stockings will replenish some of the most popular fishing spots across the Commonwealth and provide ice fishing opportunities as conditions allow throughout the winter. Trout stocked during fall and winter can be fished immediately.

🔥 It’s Fire Prevention Week! 🔥

This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.”

Lithium-ion battery fires can happen, but a few simple charging habits can help keep you, your family and your community safe:

🔌 Use the charger and cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
🏠 Charge on a hard, flat surface — never on a bed or couch.
⚠️ Stop using a device if it becomes very hot, swells, leaks, smokes or makes unusual sounds.
🔋 Unplug devices when they are fully charged.
🚲 When possible, charge e-bikes, scooters and power tools outside, and never block an exit while charging.
✈️ On airplanes, keep devices where you can see them while charging. Never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane.

A few simple precautions can make a big difference. Let’s all do our part to prevent fires and keep Pennsylvania safe!
