Life School Life School is a free, public charter school offering K-12 education with a 4-day school week. Today, Life School serves over 3600 students at four campuses.

Life School began in 1998 to serve students and families in southern Dallas. It is through the vision of the Chancellor and founder, Dr. Tom Wilson, that Life School opened its doors with 15 faculty and staff members serving 266 students at the Oak Cliff campus. Since its inception over a decade ago, Life School has experienced substantial increases in enrollment without any form of advertisement. Testimonies from parents to friends, neighbors, and co-workers have fueled rapid growth. Dr. Wilson’s vision was to provide a quality education and give parents an educational choice regardless of a parent’s ability to pay. He envisioned a tuition-free school with the quality of an expensive private school. After enactment of charter school legislation, Dr. Wilson realized that a charter school was the avenue to fulfill this vision. Through the help of friends, educators and other professionals the charter was drafted and approved by the TEA in the spring of 1998, and the doors opened only a few months later in August 1998.

Every great chess player knows a secret: the best move is rarely the first one you see. ♟️

Happy National Chess Day! Chess asks kids to slow down, look a few moves ahead, and ask, "If I do this, what happens next?" That's Critical Thinking in its purest form — the same skill students use to weigh evidence in science, plan an essay, or work through a tough math problem.

And the losses? They teach just as much as the wins. Every lost game is a lesson in Resilience: study what happened, adjust, play again.

This weekend, pull out a board and play a game with your child. Let them teach you a move or two. 😉

Some of the brightest minds see words a little differently. 💙

This week is Dyslexia Awareness Week. Dyslexia is a learning difference that affects reading, writing, and spelling — it has nothing to do with how smart, creative, or capable a child is. With the right support, kids with dyslexia don't just keep up. They thrive.

That journey builds something powerful: Resilience. Students who learn to advocate for how they learn best grow into Self-Aware leaders who know their strengths and use them.

If you have questions about your child's reading, start with a conversation with their teacher. You're not alone in this — we're in it together.
