This week, we started our annual Fire Prevention Month education with our friends at Sunnyside Elementary School, and we had a great time teaching them some basic fundamentals of home fire safety. One of the things we cover with the younger grades is how different we can look after we put on all our gear and to not be scared of us in an emergency. We decided to mix it up a bit this year, and Special Education teacher, Mrs. Babb, thought it would be fun to step in and help with the demo. Though she had never done it before, Fire Inspector Babb helped her through putting on the 65 lbs. worth of gear, while Fire Marshal Speltz explained what each piece of gear is for. The kids loved seeing Mrs. Babb transform from Teacher to Firefighter and back to Teacher, but in, the end, Mr. and Mrs. Babb decided to stick with their chosen profession and leave the teaching and firefighting to each other.

Replacing the engine in an ambulance is no small task. So, we're extremely thankful to have a great Public Works team who tackled the challenge after our old engine failed. While we answered calls with a loaner ambulance, Public Works used their skills to get our equipment back up and running as soon as possible. Our ambulance is officially back in service, and we want the community to know about the incredible work that went into making that happen.

Hey, Red Wing. You may notice an ambulance that looks distinctly different from our traditionally red vehicles out serving the community over the next few weeks. That's because one of our ambulances is currently out of service for repairs, and we'll be using the loaner ambulance you see below to respond to calls in the meantime. Same paramedics, same equipment, same dedication to serving you.

Thank you to Public Works for your work on our fleet, ensuring that our ambulance will be back in service in top shape soon!
