At this week's Shasta County Board of Supervisors meeting, three proclamations were passed unanimously:
1️⃣ A proclamation designating October 2026 as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" in Shasta County. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Nor-Cal Breast Cancer Connection, formerly known as Nor-Cal Think Pink Project, raising awareness about breast cancer and observing “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and “Think Pink Day,” providing opportunities for women to become aware that they are at risk and to participate in breast cancer screening. Patient awareness and early detection through breast cancer screening improves the chances for cure and survival by 98 percent!
2️⃣ A proclamation designating October 23-31, 2026, as "Red Ribbon Week" in Shasta County. Shasta County Chemical People—Partners for a Drug-Free Community coordinates the Red Ribbon Week Campaign, offering the community the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to healthy, drug-free lifestyles.
3️⃣ A proclamation designating October 4-10, 2026, as "National 4-H Week" in Shasta County. Compared to their peers, 4-H youth are four times more likely to make a positive contribution to their communities and two times more likely to take courses and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This year’s National 4-H Week theme, “Beyond Ready,” is a reminder that 4-H is building a ready generation in a world of change and equips young people with skills for the future while meeting them where they are today.
