🔥It’s Fire Prevention Week!🔥
Your Redding Firefighters teamed up with Calfire, and USFS to visit schools throughout the Redding area. This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on the simple steps people can take to recharge safely. Safe charging means making smart choices every time you plug in.

Many devices used in our daily lives - phones, tablets, laptops, tools, toys, e-bikes, and scooters—run on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which store a lot of energy in a small space. If they are damaged or charged the wrong way, they can overheat, start a fire, or even explode.

• Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

• Charge devices on a table, desk, or other hard, flat surface. Do not charge them on beds, couches, or under pillows. Devices and chargers produce heat during normal charging. Soft surfaces can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause the battery to overheat.

• Stop using your device if it feels very hot, starts to swell, is smoking, or has a strange smell. These are warning signs that the battery may be damaged or failing.

• Unplug your device when it is fully charged. Do not leave it plugged in longer than needed. Leaving a device plugged in too long can increase heat and stress on the battery.

• Charge larger items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside and away from exits. These batteries are larger and store more energy. If they fail, fires can grow quickly and spread.

Due to ongoing budget shortfalls, Redding Fire Station 3 will be closing in the near future.

We understand that this is a significant change for our community and may bring questions and concerns. During this difficult time, your Redding firefighters remain committed to providing the highest level of service possible. While the closure will place additional demands on our department and our personnel, we will continue to answer the call, and serve our community with the professionalism, and dedication you have come to expect. There will be further information about this closure and the details involved on the October 20th City Council meeting.

Thank you for your continued trust, support, and understanding as we navigate this challenging time together.

Pink looks good on us! 🚒🎀

This month, we honor those who have fought, celebrate those who continue to fight, and remember those we’ve lost to breast cancer. Our firefighters proudly wear pink as a reminder that awareness, early detection, and support can make a difference. We’re proud to stand alongside the survivors, fighters, families, and loved ones in our community.

Looking to show some support? On October 15th from 5:00-8pm we will be at the Sundial Resource Fair supporting think pink. Shirts will be for sale at our tent for $25. You can also show support by visiting https://norcalbreastcancerconnection.org.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the families who were forever changed, the civilians who showed extraordinary courage, and the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away.

343 members of the New York City Fire Department made the ultimate sacrifice that day. They entered the World Trade Center knowing there was danger, but never knowing they would not return home. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness continue to inspire firefighters and first responders across the country.

Today we honor their lives. We remember their names. And pay tribute to the legacy they left behind. Never forget. 🇺🇸

Just before 11:00 PM, Engine 4 responded to a report of smoke near Hartnell and Wilshire Drive. Crews arrived to heavy smoke in the area and quickly requested a First Alarm Structure Fire response.
The vacant home already had a partially collapsed roof on arrival with flames showing from the roof, a sign the fire had been burning for some time before it was spotted.
Crews faced a tough fight: the nearest hydrant was 1,500 feet away, and the home’s solid tongue-and-groove wood ceiling made it much harder to open up and check for fire in the attic. Firefighters remained on scene until about 4:00 AM. A reminder: report smoke or strange odors right away, even without visible flames — it can make all the difference.
