Diversity Matters
The Netherlands just made history - and honestly, we are HERE for it. Rob Jetten, 38, was sworn in today as the country's new Prime Minister, making him not only the youngest person to ever hold that office in the Netherlands, but also the first openly gay one.
The centrist D66 leader ran a campaign full of optimism and energy, defeating the far-right in elections last October with a message of "yes, we can" - and clearly, they could.
Along the way, he didn't shy away from calling out far-right politicians who only pretend to care about LGBTQ+ rights when it's politically convenient.
And because this story wasn't already sweet enough - Jetten is engaged to Nicolás Keenan, a bisexual hockey player who has been by his side throughout this whole journey.
A gay prime minister and his athlete fiancé. Someone is going to write a very good novel about this one day, and we can't wait for the HBO Max version.

Let's dedicate a moment to Bill Clinton: Say what you want about the 42nd president, but this man has been on quite the journey when it comes to LGBTQ rights.
Sure, he wasn't perfect - he opposed gay marriage as governor and gave us "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" which felt pretty awful at the time. But let's be real about the 1990s political climate.
Clinton became the first president to officially declare June as Gay and Le***an Pride Month back in 1999 - a huge moment that legitimized our community on the national stage. He was also the first sitting president to speak at an LGBTQ fundraiser, appointed openly gay officials to his administration, and expanded hate crime protections.
He may have started cautious, but he kept evolving. By the time he left office, he was calling for full equality, and he's been a vocal advocate ever since.
Clinton's 79 today, and his legacy on our rights is complicated but ultimately pretty meaningful. The man who gave us those baby steps helped pave the way for marriage equality and everything that came after. Not bad for a guy from Arkansas in the 90s.

It's been 3 years since the became law. Our members were instrumental in getting this bill to the President’s desk, but we know the work isn't done yet. There's more we need to do to fully protect LGBTQI+ people, including by passing the next!
Thank You Mark
