Why would an award-winning memoir be challenged?

Before George Takei became famous as Lt. Sulu on Star Trek, he was a young boy whose family was forced from their home and incarcerated during World War II. He tells that story in They Called Us Enemy - an acclaimed graphic memoir that has faced attempts to restrict its availability.

Why was it challenged? And who wanted it removed?

Come to the 5th Annual Upscale Pub Crawl on October 7 to discover the stories behind challenged books like this one—and why the freedom to read matters. Visit downtown pubs, enjoy discounted drinks and bites, and learn something surprising along the way.
