Oct 15 is the โ€“ itโ€™s time to prepare for earthquake safety!

If youโ€™re outside when the shaking starts, 1) move to an open space if you can safely do so. 2) avoid power lines, trees, signs, buildings. 3) Drop, Cover, and Hold On to protect your vital organs.

Today is World Mental Health Day and spending time in nature is scientifically proven to improve your mental health! Some studies say that just 10 minutes of time spent in a natural setting each day is enough to lower stress hormones, reduces anxiety, and boosts your overall mood and focus.

Celebrate World Octopus Day with San Mateo County Parks!

We are putting a spooky twist on the octopus in honor of our series, as we count down the days until Halloween. Though they might have a scary and creepy reputation to them, octopuses are highly intelligent and unique animals. The East Red Pacific Octopus (pictured) is the most common octopus in San Mateo County.

Today is a day to raise awareness for these amazing creatures as their populations continue to decline, due to factors like habitat loss, overhunting, ocean acidification and much more. If we don't act soon in preserving these unique and special organisms, they could disappear forever which would be truly scary!
