For immediate release:

The 2026 Fire Season is over!!

As of October 26, 2026, burning within the Reedsport city limits is allowed.

Burn permits are required!!!!

The Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department’s Burn Permit Officer continues to monitor all burning within the City limits to ensure that all burning is done on authorized days, to meet both local, state and federal guidelines, and to control smoke intrusion.

All burning within the City limits requires a burn permit. Please call the Fire Department, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to noon, at 271-2423. Those who wish to burn on the weekends, call on Friday.

There is no charge for this service. Permitted burning includes the use of burn barrels, and debris burns, (for scrap wood or woody material). Burning of household garbage is strictly prohibited.

“Warming fires”, otherwise known as campfires, fire pits, or commercially purchased containers, (for cooking, or other non debris burning activities), doesn’t require a permit. We ask that you burn safely and responsibly. Do not leave the fire unattended, put it out completely when finished, and carefully watch the direction of the smoke coming from your fire which is regulated by City Ordinance 6.08.020 (J)

FIRE SEASON REMINDER:
Although the Oregon Department of Forestry has declared the end of fire season in some districts, fire season remains in effect throughout the Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) district.

WE HERE AT REEDSPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT FOLLOW COOS FOREST PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION.

All debris burning remains strictly prohibited.
Recent rain does not mean fire danger is gone. Dry conditions can return quickly, and even a small fire can spread and threaten our communities, homes, and forests.
Please continue to follow all regulated use restrictions until CFPA and RVFD officially announces changes for our district.

Thank you!!

Fire Season is Still in Effect (WE AS REEDSPORT FIRE VOLUNTEER DEPARTMENT FOLLOW THIS)

As hunting season gets underway, we know more people will be out enjoying the woods. With more traffic in the forest, we ask everyone to help prevent wildfires. October has been warmer and drier than usual, so fire danger remains a concern for the CFPA district.
Please remember:
• Fire season is still in effect.
• Follow all regulated use closures and restrictions.
• Follow all landowner requirements and posted rules.
• Be careful with vehicles, equipment, and anything that could start a fire.
• Make sure you know the rules before heading into the woods.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William (KNOX) Story

William (Knox) Story, who selflessly and courageously answered the call to serve as a firefighter with the Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department, passed away after a short illness on September 22, 2026. He was 70 years old.

He joined the Fire Department in April 1998, was promoted to Engineer in 2004, then promoted to Captain in 2006. He retired after 21 years of faithful service in May 2019.

A man of many talents, he was well known for his problem-solving skills, which helped the Department manage intricate incidents safely and efficiently. If we needed to ventilate a structure or remove a large tree from the roadway, the Department was always glad to see Knox arrive on scene, as his knowledge and expertise operating a chain saw would make short work of any task. He was the lead instructor for chainsaw operation training.

His dedication and commitment made him a great asset to the Fire Department, the Fire Service, and to our community.

Our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time. May the cherished memories of your loved one bring you comfort and peace. He will be deeply missed and remembered.

Rest in peace brother.
