We are always currently looking for volunteers to support our community! While you do have to have an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification, we will help you find and pay for either of these courses. Please email [email protected] for more information.

Tonight, our crew trained on our agency’s recently purchased Stryker Power-LOAD System!

While Power-LOAD systems have already become a familiar piece of equipment at many EMS agencies, we’re excited to bring this technology to our organization and put it into service for our crews and community.

The Power-LOAD system helps load and unload the stretcher while significantly reducing the amount of lifting required from our providers. EMS can be physically demanding, and anything we can do to reduce repetitive lifting, protect our backs, and lower the risk of injury helps keep our providers healthy and ready to serve.

Tonight’s training gave our crews hands-on experience with the system and helped ensure everyone is comfortable and confident using it safely.

This is a great investment in our equipment and our providers!

Reinholds Community Ambulance Association is proud to announce a new partnership with Ephrata Community Ambulance Association to bring Advanced Life Support (ALS) services directly to our station and the communities we serve.

Beginning October 1st, Ephrata Community Ambulance will staff Medic 1-90 out of the Reinholds Ambulance station.

This partnership means an ALS unit and paramedic crew will be based right here in Reinholds, helping provide quicker access to advanced prehospital care when our community needs it most.

Our organizations share the same goal: providing the highest level of emergency medical care possible to the residents and communities we serve. By working together and combining the strengths of both organizations, we believe this partnership will strengthen EMS coverage throughout our area.

We are excited to welcome Medic 1-90 and the Ephrata Community Ambulance team to Reinholds and look forward to working side-by-side serving our communities.

Another year in the books, and another reminder of what makes our organization so special.

Tonight we celebrated the incredible members, employees, and volunteers who dedicate their time to serving our community. Whether responding to emergencies at 2 a.m., covering community events, training new members, or working behind the scenes, every person in this photo and then some, plays an important role.

Thank you to everyone who makes Reinholds Community Ambulance Association what it is.

đźš‘ Help Protect EMS in Pennsylvania

EMS agencies across Pennsylvania are facing a serious funding crisis. Ambulance services respond to every emergency, provide lifesaving care, and transport patients regardless of their ability to pay. Yet some insurance companies send reimbursement checks directly to patients instead of the EMS providers who delivered the care.

When those payments are not forwarded, ambulance services are forced to absorb the cost.

Since August 2022, Western Berks Ambulance Association has lost more than $940,000 in insurance payments that were sent to patients and never remitted to the EMS agency. Some individual cases involve thousands of dollars in unpaid reimbursements.

This is not an isolated problem—it is affecting EMS agencies across Pennsylvania. As costs rise and staffing shortages continue, these losses threaten the ability of ambulance services to remain operational and available when communities need them most.

Pennsylvania lawmakers have introduced House Bill 1152 and Senate Bill 1342, legislation that would require insurance companies to pay EMS providers directly and help create a more sustainable funding system.

📢 We encourage everyone to contact their State Representative and State Senator and ask them to support HB 1152 and SB 1342.

Strong EMS systems save lives. Direct reimbursement helps ensure ambulances remain staffed, equipped, and ready to respond 24/7.

Support EMS. Support direct reimbursement. Support HB 1152 and SB 1342.

Today, we would like to send our heartfelt condolences to our neighboring EMS family at Ephrata Community Ambulance Association following the passing of their longtime president.

The EMS community is a close one, and the loss of a dedicated leader is felt far beyond a single organization. His years of commitment, leadership, and service helped shape not only his agency, but also the community he served so faithfully.

Please keep the members of Ephrata Ambulance, along with his family and loved ones, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Thank you for a lifetime of service. Rest in peace

The Ephrata Community Ambulance Association announces, with deep sadness, the passing of life member and Emergency Medical Technician, Leslie “Les” Martzall.

Les began his service with Ephrata Ambulance in January 1978 and dedicated decades of his life to the organization and the community. He served as President from 1981 to 1997, again from 2004 to 2012, and most recently from 2018 to 2025. In addition, he held the role of Treasurer from 2002 to 2003 and from 2014 to 2017. At the time of his passing, he continued to serve in the role of President Emeritus. In addition to his service with Ephrata Ambulance, Les also volunteered his time with multiple other fire and EMS agencies throughout the county.

Throughout his years of service, Les made lasting contributions to EMS in Ephrata. He was a certified First Aid and CPR instructor, served on numerous ambulance committees, and played a key role in the purchase and renovation of the former gas station that now serves as the current Ephrata Ambulance station. He was also instrumental in the development and launch of the Ephrata Ambulance paratransit service in 1997.

Les’s leadership, dedication, and commitment to helping others have left an enduring impact on the organization and the community he served so faithfully. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working with him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
