NEVADA COMMUNITY ACTION IS BACK IN THE
SPOTLIGHT: 12 LOCAL AGENCIES HELP NEVADANS
FIND A PATH FORWARD
Statewide network reconnects communities with programs addressing poverty, housing, employment, food, transportation and other critical needs.
RENO, Nev. — September 3, 2026—
When a Nevada family is struggling to keep the lights on, find stable housing, put food on the table, secure employment or overcome another barrier to economic stability, knowing where to turn can make all the difference.
The Nevada Community Action Association (NCAA)
is reintroducing its statewide network to the public with a simple message:
Help is available — and it starts in your community.
NCAA represents a network of 12 Community Action Agencies serving communities throughout Nevada.
These local agencies work directly with individuals and families, connecting them with programs, resources and partnerships designed to address the causes and conditions of poverty.
"Nevadans should know that they do not have to navigate difficult times alone," said Matthew Saylor, MA, Executive Director of the Nevada Community Action Association. "Our 12 Community Action Agencies are on the ground in communities across this state. They understand the challenges facing their neighbors, and they are ready to connect people with resources, opportunities and a path toward greater stability."
What Is Community Action?
Community Action is a nationwide network created to help communities address poverty and expand economic opportunity.
In Nevada, the network is supported in part through the
Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), a federally funded program administered through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Community Services.
CSBG funding supports community-based programs that help low-income individuals and families address barriers to self-sufficiency. Depending on the community and available programs, assistance can include employment, education, housing, transportation, food and nutrition, emergency assistance and other family and community support.
"Poverty means different things to different people - from an IRS income designation to being homeless," said
Matthew Saylor, MA - ED NCAA. "Community Action is about connecting people to the resources, knowledge and opportunities that can help them move forward. It is about strengthening individuals, families and communities."
12 Agencies. One Statewide Network.
Nevada's Community Action network consists of 12 designated agencies:
Carson City Health and Human Services — Carson City

Lincoln County Human Services— Lincoln County

The Nevada Department of Human Services lists these 12 organizations as Nevada's CSBG-funded Community Action Agencies, with programs and services tailored to the needs of their local communities.

Community Action Is About People
NCAA's statewide role is to bring Nevada's Community Action Agencies together to share information, strengthen partnerships, develop strategies addressing poverty and provide training and support to member agencies.
But the ultimate goal is local.
Helping a family stay housed.
Helping a parent find employment.
Helping a senior access food.
Helping a student overcome a barrier to education.
Helping a household keep essential utilities connected.
Helping a person take the next step toward self-sufficiency.
"Every community has different challenges, and goals are unique to the individual," said Matthew Saylor, MA ED NCAA. "We want every Nevadan to know that Community Action is here, that local agencies areready to help, and that asking for help can be the first step toward a stronger future."
