🌊 Rough waters are expected on Lake Tahoe Friday night into Saturday morning.

East winds of 10–20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, will produce waves of 2–4 feet. These conditions will be hazardous for small craft, including kayaks and paddleboards, with a risk of capsizing. Consider postponing boating activities until conditions improve.

Your weekend outlook for October 23–25:

Showers taper Friday, followed by a mostly sunny, dry weekend. Bundle up for cold mornings: valley lows will range from the teens to 30s, with afternoon highs warming into the upper 50s and 60s by Sunday.

At Lake Tahoe, east winds increase late Friday, bringing gusts of 30–40 mph Friday night. Gusty lake and crest winds continue into Saturday morning before easing. Plan for choppy waters, and watch for patchy morning fog near Truckee.

A Flood Watch is in effect through 5 AM PDT Friday for northeastern Lassen County and Surprise Valley, CA, and northern Washoe and northwestern Pershing counties, NV.

Heavy rain this afternoon and evening may flood small streams and rural roads. Sediment from the Biscar and S1-Vya burn scars may clog culverts and ditches. Vulnerable locations include remote ranches within and near the scars and US-395 culverts from Stoney Creek Road north to Rye Patch Road.

Runoff may linger overnight. Stay alert and never drive through flooded roads.

Today and Tuesday are good days to prepare for an incoming system that will bring valley rain showers and storms, high-elevation snow, and gusty winds. Some showers may fall on the heavier side, and could bring flooding to poor drainage and burn scar areas.
