Nevada Volunteers is implementing an AmeriCorps VISTA outreach and resource-sharing strategy to build capacity across the state of Nevada. The Nevada Pathways Project, aims to break the cycle of poverty by building capacity in Nevada counties where there is documented community need, access barriers, and limited utilization of federal funding with a focus on Native American Tribes, nonprofit/community organizations, and rural counties.

By completing the subsite application, you can request one or more full-time VISTA members to complete a year of service, meeting a specific need in your community.

🌟 Community Happens When We Show Up 🌟

The 3rd Annual Elko Volunteer Fair was a wonderful reminder that volunteering is about so much more than filling positions—it's about building connections that strengthen our community.

With 25 nonprofit organizations in attendance and community members eager to get involved, the day was filled with meaningful conversations and exciting opportunities. One organization connected with potential board members. A couple who recently moved to Elko discovered ways to get involved and meet new people. Two organizations serving the same population found opportunities to collaborate and better support those they serve. Another organization even discovered the California Trail Center as the perfect venue for an upcoming event.

These are the moments that make volunteer fairs so valuable.

Volunteer fairs help nonprofits build recruitment capacity and help community members find meaningful ways to give back. But they also create space for connection, cooperation, collaboration, and community.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners, Elko Area Chamber and California Trail Interpretive Center, for helping make this event such a success. Together, we created opportunities that will continue to benefit Elko County long after the fair has ended.

Thank you to every nonprofit, volunteer, and community member who joined us. We can't wait to see the impact these new connections will create. 💙

We're proud to announce that Nevada has been selected to join the Youth Mental Health Corps (YMHC)—a first-of-its-kind national initiative that is helping address the youth mental health crisis while creating pathways to careers in behavioral health.

Over the past three years, nearly 1,000 young adults have served in schools and communities across the country, providing critical support to their peers and gaining valuable workforce experience along the way.

Now, that work is coming home to Nevada.

Watch this video to learn more about the Youth Mental Health Corps movement and the impact it's making nationwide. Together, we're investing in the next generation of behavioral health leaders while expanding support for young people who need it most.

What an incredible afternoon celebrating the 2025 Nevada Volunteers Youth Council Convening this past Saturday, May 23rd at the Blind Center of Nevada!

This year’s Youth Council members truly exceeded every expectation. Together, our 15 council members contributed an astounding 2,253 service hours, recruited 1,065 volunteers — including 930 youth volunteers — and generated a total of 5,499 volunteer hours in communities across Nevada.

To put that into perspective: in the first TWO years of the Nevada Volunteers Youth Council program combined, members completed 18 projects and generated 2,295 volunteer hours. This year’s council more than doubled that impact in a single program year. We could not be more proud of the leadership, compassion, and dedication these students demonstrated throughout their journey.

A huge thank you to the Blind Center of Nevada for hosting us with such a beautiful setup and phenomenal food. We always love the opportunity to support a fellow nonprofit organization doing incredible work in our community.

Thank you as well to Commissioners April Stewart and Scott Emerson for helping us recognize and celebrate our outstanding students during the awards presentation.

We are especially grateful to Nevada Volunteers Youth Commissioner Sophia Booth for inspiring our council members through her leadership and continued commitment to youth empowerment and elevating youth voices across Nevada.

A very special thank you to former Nevada Volunteers team member Charli Bruce for volunteering their time to run our slideshow and sound throughout the event — we truly appreciated your support behind the scenes!

Thank you as well to Lilah Cohen and Michelle Harkness for capturing so many wonderful moments throughout the day and helping us preserve memories from such a meaningful event.

And finally, thank you to all of the parents, teachers, school counselors, principals, nonprofit partners, mentors, friends, and family members who supported our Youth Council members throughout this experience. Behind every student leader is a community of people encouraging them along the way, and we are so grateful for each of you.

The future of Nevada is bright, and these young leaders are proof of that. 💙

The Youth Mental Health Corps (YMHC) is a national service-to-career initiative designed to address two urgent challenges: the youth mental health crisis and the shortage of behavioral health professionals. Conceived by the Schultz Family Foundation and Pinterest and launched with AmeriCorps, state service commissions, national philanthropies, and corporate partners, the YMHC leverages national service to expand support for youth while creating meaningful career pathways for young adults.
