Last week, the American Cancer Society released new colorectal cancer screening guidelines to include newer versions of stool-based test and the new blood test that can detect some colorectal cancers. Colonoscopy is still the gold standard because it can actually prevent cancers through polyp removal, and stool-based testing is effective in finding cancers. But the reality is some people just won't get get screened with these options and others don't have access. Blood-based screening can be an option for those who won't get screened any other way.
