Nevada Floods Nevada floods. Are you prepared? In addition, information for flooding in the Truckee Meadows region can be found from the Truckee River Flood Project.

The Nevada Flood Awareness Committee formed in late 2013 to raise awareness among Nevadans that serious flooding occurs regularly in our state, and that there are steps residents can take to mitigate the risk. The objectives of the committee are to effectively disseminate flood, flood preparedness and flood insurance information to Nevadans through annual activities in northern and rural Nevada and NevadaFloods.org. Information about flooding in Southern Nevada can be found from The Clark County Regional Flood Control District that does extensive monitoring, alerting and education about the unique flooding challenges in Las Vegas and surrounding areas. Nevada Flood Awareness Week, a Nevada Flood Awareness committee initiative, is the week of November 10. It was funded in part with a grant from the US Army Corps of Engineers and was organized by:

- Nevada Division of Water Resources, Floodplain Management Program
- Nevada Division of Emergency Management
- University of Nevada Cooperative Extension

DISCLAIMER
The Nevada Flood Awareness committee is comprised of volunteers from a number of governmental agencies that deal with flooding. The committee does not benefit in any way from the sale of flood insurance products, preparedness kits, or any other items discussed on the NevadaFloods.org website.

Sending love to our partners in West Virginia as they battle their way through this disaster.

Flooding can be devastating and sometimes there is little time to evacuate. It is always a good idea to have an emergency kit in your home with food and other essentials in case you need to shelter in place. Do NOT try to drive through flood waters.

🤯

It was a sight most people thought they would never see.

In 1983, after an unusually wet winter across the West, Lake Mead rose dramatically and forced officials to open Hoover Dam's spillways for the first time in years. Millions of gallons of water thundered through the giant tunnels, creating a spectacle visible for miles.

The force of the water was so intense that it damaged parts of the spillway system itself. Engineers worked around the clock while visitors gathered at overlooks to witness one of the most powerful man-made waterfalls in American history.

For Southern Nevada residents, the event remains one of the most extraordinary moments ever witnessed at Hoover Dam—a reminder of nature's power and the engineering marvel that helped build modern Las Vegas.

Did you know it only takes 1 foot of water to wash away your car?

It is not worth it to try and cross a flooded road. You have no way of know how deep or swift the water is, and you can't know if there is any debris hiding beneath the surface.

Hey there teachers! I am sharing this new lesson plan from our partners at the USGS Water Resources. The material aims to teach high school level students about the relationship between water levels and snowmelt. Actually, I know some of the adults will be interested in this material too.

According to the National Weather Service, "Incoming warm system brings rain, warmer temps and gusty winds to the region this week. Expect poor drainage flooding, rising waters in area creeks & streams, & snow sliding off roofs. Prepare now by clearing storm drains, gutters & roofs ahead of this next storm."

Douglas County sandbag locations have been stocked and are ready to go! Please click here to access the current list: https://ayrs.io/cIHuyZ

Some sites may have snow and ice, so please use extra caution. Don't forget to bring your own shovel!
