Eating disorder recovery doesn’t require "trying harder." It oftentimes requires more support.

Weekly therapy, self-help, and personal effort can all be valuable parts of recovery, but there are times when eating disorder thoughts and behaviors become too persistent or overwhelming for once-a-week support alone.

In our latest blog, we’re sharing some of the signs that it may be time to consider a higher level of eating disorder care, including Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization (PHP), and what those programs can look like.

If you’ve been doing the work and still feel stuck, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It may simply mean you need a different level of support.

Investing in our team means investing in the care we provide.

The Prosperity leadership team recently came together for a leadership retreat focused on how we can continue providing the highest quality eating disorder care to the individuals and families we serve.

From strengthening the support we provide our clients to continuing to train and develop our staff as knowledgeable, compassionate eating disorder professionals, these conversations help ensure our teams in Norfolk and Reston continue learning, growing, and providing specialized care our clients can trust.

We’re grateful for the leadership, collaboration, and shared commitment that keep Prosperity moving forward and help us continue raising the standard of care for our clients and families. 💜

A little Hufflepuff spirit at Prosperity! 💛🖤

Mary Dye MPH, RDN, CEDS-C, and Nutrition Tech Nya Worthington showed up sporting their shared love of Harry Potter, a fandom that continues to be a favorite among many of our clients too!

We love the little things that create opportunities for connection and fun throughout the day!

At Prosperity, we’re proud to create a space where everyone can feel welcomed, supported, and affirmed for exactly who they are. ✨

September is Su***de Prevention Month. This powerful letter to society was written by one of our adolescent clients while receiving eating disorder treatment, and the words are difficult to ignore:

“What you are doing to people isn’t okay. The reason eating disorders and su***de rates are going up is because kids are born into a world that tells them they are not good enough to be loved.”

Messages about bodies, appearance, worth, and what it means to be “good enough” can have a profound impact, especially on young people. These words are an important reminder of why compassion, connection, acceptance, and the way we talk about bodies and health matter so much.

Throughout Su***de Prevention Month, we’re reminded to look beyond what we can see, listen without judgment, and help create a world where young people know their worth is not determined by their body, their appearance, or a number on a scale.

💜 If you or someone you love is struggling, you do not have to navigate it alone. In the U.S., call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Apparently green is the unofficial dress code at Prosperity Norfolk! 💚

Therapist Gianna Gianni, MSW, Nutrition Tech Nicole Ross, and Medical Director Stacey Guerrero, PMHNP-BC, showed up perfectly coordinated, so naturally we had to document it.

We love seeing little moments like this bring some extra fun and connection into the day. Because even in the meaningful work of eating disorder treatment and recovery, there is always room for joy, laughter, and of course, a little accidental matching. 😊

Happy Fall! 🫶 A new season can bring a lot of little shifts with it. Cooler weather, different routines, seasonal foods, different clothing, and all the messages that can come along with them.

As fall begins, remember that recovery doesn’t require you to change with the season.

You’re allowed to enjoy the foods and drinks you love without earning them. You’re allowed to choose clothes that feel comfortable. You’re allowed to let your body be a body and stay present for the moments that make this season meaningful.

Sometimes the most important reminder is simply this: you deserve kindness in every season.

Fall can bring a lot of change. 🌿 New routines, different schedules, seasonal clothing, social gatherings, and even more conversations around food and bodies can all feel like a lot when you’re working toward recovery.

Staying rooted doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly. It can look like checking in with yourself, setting boundaries when conversations feel unhelpful, choosing what feels comfortable, and giving yourself permission to move through the season with flexibility and compassion.

As the seasons change, your recovery doesn’t have to change with everyone else’s expectations.

Swipe through for a few reminders to help you stay grounded and connected to what supports your well-being this fall. 💜

Social media is shaping the world our teens are growing up in, and the conversation around accountability is changing.

For years, families, clinicians, and advocates have raised concerns about the impact social media can have on youth mental health, body image, disordered eating, and eating disorder recovery. Now, major legal cases are pushing some of the largest social media platforms to answer difficult questions about how their products are designed and what protections young users deserve.

In our latest blog, we break down what’s happening, why these developments matter for eating disorder prevention and recovery, and what parents and caregivers can do to support their children in an increasingly digital world.
