🍪📚 Community Ed Happenings! 🎨

It’s been a busy and fun fall for SDR Community Education! Community members have been trying new things, learning new skills, and connecting with others through a variety of exciting classes.

Here’s a look at two recent favorites: Beginner Cookie Decorating and Book Folding! Both classes gave participants a chance to get creative, learn something new, and have a great time along the way.

Please join us in giving a warm Hodag welcome to Becca Mata, our new Library TA at Pelican Elementary! 📚🍎💚

Becca brings over 8 years of education experience, a background in the performing arts, and a passion for helping students learn, grow, and succeed to our Pelican family! 🌟

Get to know Becca:

🎓 Background & Experience: Becca has been working in education for over 8 years in the Milwaukee, Racine, and Oak Creek areas! She and her spouse recently got married and made the big move up north to Rhinelander to start a new chapter and put down roots in the community.

🐾 Hobbies & Interests: Becca enjoys spending time with family and friends, decorating, watching movies, and all things music! Life at home is always lively with her three cats and one dog—a full-time zoo that keeps things fun! 🐱🐶🎶

🌟 Looking Ahead: She is most excited about getting to know all of the staff and students and becoming an active part of the Rhinelander community!

🔧🩺🔬 A few more highlights from yesterday’s First Grade Tools Event! 🛠️🚀

We welcomed 144 first-grade students from Central, Crescent, Nativity, NCES, and Pelican for a hands-on day of career exploration!

Our first graders have been learning in their classrooms about the tools people use in different careers, and yesterday, we brought that learning to life! Students had the opportunity to explore tools and learn more about careers including:
👨‍🍳 Cook
🧪 Chemist
🩺 Nurse
🚀 Astronaut
🦷 Dentist
🚒 Firefighter & EMT
🐾 Veterinarian
📸 Photographer
⚡ Welder
🏗️ Construction Worker
🚗 Auto Technician

A huge THANK YOU to our high school students, high school teachers, and PIE partners for sharing their time, knowledge, and talents to make this event such a meaningful experience for our young learners!

👹📚 A little monster creativity in action!
Here are a few more pictures from yesterday afternoon’s high school community service event!

Our 10th-grade students visited each of our elementary schools to kick off a fun monster book writing project with our second graders. As our younger students learn about the parts of a story, our high school students helped them bring those skills to life by creating their very own monster characters and turning their ideas into stories! 👏

Now, our high school students are taking the next step by writing the stories as part of their class. In just a few weeks, every second-grade student in the district will receive their very own monster book at our upcoming Monster Writing Event! 📝👾

We love seeing our students work together across grade levels, sharing creativity, building connections, and bringing stories to life! ❤️📖

🔧👩‍🚒 Career Exploration 🩺👩‍🍳

NCES first graders had an exciting day exploring careers at the Tool/Career Fair at Rhinelander High School! Students visited a variety of interactive stations to learn about veterinarians, chefs, welders, builders, firefighters, dentists, photographers, chemists, mechanics, graphic designers, and nurses.

The students especially enjoyed the hands-on activities, where they had the opportunity to explore the tools professionals use to complete specific tasks. These engaging experiences helped spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and introduce students to the many exciting career possibilities in their future! 🌟

A big thank-you to everyone who helped make this wonderful learning experience possible!🙌

Pumpkin smiles and creative vibes! 🎨🍂 A big THANK YOU to one of our wonderful families for gifting 21 pumpkins to Mr. Richter's Crescent Elementary classroom to decorate and take home.

🧡 UNITY DAY at Pelican Elementary! 🧡

Students and staff at Pelican Elementary came together to celebrate UNITY Day and spread the important message of kindness, acceptance, and belonging for all! 🧡

The celebration included wearing orange to show support, gathering for a whole-school morning meeting, enjoying delicious orange cookies, and sharing student-written poems about inclusion and kindness. 🍊🧡

UNITY Day is a national celebration held during Bullying Prevention Month to promote kindness and inclusion.
