Pelican Fire & Rescue

Hose testing day! Members of our department spent the better part of the day pressure testing all of our fire hose to ensure it is safe and fit to use in an emergency. We have 10,000 feet of hose in various sizes that needs to be tested annually. It is a huge undertaking, but the group got it done!

Tonight we held our annual awards banquet at Holiday Acres Resort. This is a chance to thank the members of our department for the hard work they put in and the dedication they provide throughout the year.

Firefighter Nick Cates was awarded both First Responder of the Year and Firefighter of the Year. Ironically today was Nick’s birthday.

Captain Jake Kulba was awarded Officer of the Year.

We thank everyone on the department for what they do and the service they provide to help others in their time of need.

We had this awesome wreath donated to the department by T&M Towing. We have lit it green as part of the “Keep The Wreath Green Campaign”. We will switch one bulb to red for each fire related call we respond to.

Let’s all try to keep the bulbs green throughout the Holiday season.

Last night we trained with Pine Lake Fire Rescue on a simulated bus accident. Firefighters practiced stabilization and extrication skills that involved the removal of victims from the bus. A huge thank you to Pine Lake for setting this up and allowing us to use your facilities with you!

This morning firefighters from our department along with Pine Lake Fire & Rescue stood by at the W.I.L.D. Triathlon held at Holiday Acres Resort here in Rhinelander. Departments had boats in the water for the swimming portion and had EMS personnel on scene in case of any injuries.

Yesterday was pump testing day for our trucks. This is done yearly to make sure they flow the amount of water they are rated for and to make sure there are no mechanical problems with the trucks. Three of our trucks were tested through a third party testing company.

As with our ladder testing, we usually try to team up with other departments because it makes it easier for the test company to set up and test multiple trucks in a day.

This year we were able to coordinate our pump testing with Rhinelander and Stella Fire Departments. Thanks to Rhinelander FD for letting us use your facility.
