The Rhodhiss Fire Department will be performing its annual fire hydrant flushing and maintenance program throughout the community during the month of October. This routine but essential work helps ensure the proper functioning of our water distribution system and maintains high water quality for all residents.

Why we flush fire hydrants:

Ensures fire protection: Flushing ensures that hydrants are fully operational and can provide the necessary water flow and pressure during an emergency.
- Maintains water quality: The process removes accumulated sediment and mineral deposits from the water mains. This keeps the water in the pipes fresh and clear.
- Identifies system issues: It allows our team to proactively identify and address potential problems, such as leaks or broken hydrants.

What you can expect during the flushing period:

- Temporary discolored water: Your tap water may appear cloudy or rust-colored. This is caused by the disturbance of sediment and is not a health hazard. We recommend running your cold water tap for a few minutes until the water runs clear.

- Reduced water pressure: Residents may experience a temporary and slight decrease in water pressure while crews are working in your area.

- Avoid doing laundry: It is best to avoid washing clothes during this time, as the discolored water could cause stains.

What to do after flushing:

- Clear your lines: If you notice discolored water, run your cold water faucets for several minutes until the water runs clear.
- Check your appliances: Wait until your tap water is clear before using your washing machine or dishwasher.
- Clean faucet screens: If you experience a persistent drop in water pressure, check your faucet screens for trapped sediment particles.

The Rhodhiss Fire Department appreciates your patience and understanding as we complete this important annual maintenance.

Thank you for your cooperation

πŸ”₯ October is National Fire Prevention Month! πŸ”₯
When was the last time you tested your smoke alarms? A working smoke alarm cuts your risk of dying in a home fire in half. Take a few minutes today to test every alarm in your house, replace dead batteries, and make sure your family knows two ways out of every room.
Quick Safety Check:
β€’ Test smoke and CO detectors monthly.
β€’ Clear clutter around heaters and appliances.
β€’ Practice a quick home fire drill with the kids.
Stay safe, look out for your neighbors, and reach out to your local fire department if you need help with your alarms! πŸš’β€οΈ

Events like this help our program in numerous ways. All proceeds go towards our program for new uniforms, field needs, concessions, etc. Without the support from everybody involved or sharing our page things like this would not be possible. Thank you again and we hope to see you there!

We had an incredible time celebrating our Firefighter Family Fun Day! β€οΈπŸš’
Being in the fire service means our families make sacrifices every single day. Getting together outside of emergency calls is the perfect way to unwind, relieve stress, and strengthen the bonds that make us a family here at the station.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out, cooked up some incredible food, and brought those amazing desserts! πŸ”πŸŽ‚ We missed those who couldn’t make it this time around.

Thank you to our families for always standing behind us and supporting the Rhodhiss Fire Department!
