Yesterday, Firefighter Tate Milroy was honored as this year’s Firefighter of the Year by the Richardson Rotary Club as one of its two First Responder Award recipients.

This recognition highlights Tate’s hard work, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to serving both his community and this department. Congratulations to both of yesterday’s award recipients, including Detective Dustin Penland.

Thank you to the Richardson Rotary Club for recognizing and supporting our first responders.

A couple of weeks ago, a handful of firefighters from RFD began the process of testing for our Driver/Engineer position.

In the first part of the process, candidates completed a written exam based off study materials they had been given and our SOPs as well as a map of all the streets in the city of Richardson. Tomorrow, they will complete the final part of the process with the driver assessment.

Candidates dedicate months of their lives to study their books, SOPs, and the map making sure they can recreate it and get anywhere in the city without a map.

Here is a video of current Driver/Engineer Vasilios Colias completing the map in preparation for his exam last year.
