Houston suburb secures No. 5 rank on list of safest midsized Texas cities As the greater Houston area continues to grow with an influx of new residents, Sugar Land is in the lead for its safety and security for residents, according to a new report.

This week’s Commissioners Court meeting included several actions focused on strengthening infrastructure, expanding community services, and enhancing the quality of life for residents across Fort Bend County.

Among the items approved were early voting locations for the upcoming Municipal Runoff Election, new sidewalk improvements along Beechnut Road near the Mission Sierra community, an expanded partnership to better connect residents with social services, paid mental health leave for first responders, and continued support for youth development programs serving students throughout the county.

These initiatives reflect Fort Bend County’s ongoing commitment to investing in safer neighborhoods, accessible resources, and opportunities that help communities thrive.

Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy joined Fort Bend County officials this morning for a press conference announcing the launch of a new Commercial Vehicle Code Enforcement Unit aimed at improving roadway safety, strengthening traffic enforcement, and addressing ongoing concerns throughout unincorporated areas of Precinct 4.

Commissioner McCoy was joined by Precinct 4 Constable Patrick Quincy, District Attorney Brian Middleton, County Attorney Bridgette Smith-Lawson, and additional county leaders as they discussed the importance of proactive enforcement and public safety initiatives in one of the county’s fastest-growing regions.

The newly established unit will focus on monitoring commercial vehicle activity, enforcing county regulations, addressing speeding and code violations, and protecting residential communities from unsafe roadway conditions.

Yesterday, Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy joined local leaders, law enforcement officials and members of the Muslim community for a joint press conference centered on unity, compassion and public safety. The event served as an opportunity for community leaders to address concerns, reaffirm their commitment to protecting all residents and encourage continued dialogue and support throughout Fort Bend County. Leaders also emphasized the importance of standing together in times of uncertainty and rejecting hate in all forms.
