Today marks the first day of hurricane season, and now is the time to get prepared — not when a storm is already approaching.

Take time today to assemble your disaster supply kit with essentials like water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries, important documents, and supplies for children and pets. Being prepared now can make all the difference later.

Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. Fort Bend County residents are encouraged to review emergency plans, know evacuation routes, and stay informed throughout the season.

Hey Fort Bend! 😎🔆 Today is National Heat Awareness Day- a day that serves as a reminder to prepare for rising summer temperatures and to protect those who are vulnerable in our community.

Remember:
• Stay Hydrated - drink plenty of water throughout the day, and make sure those pet bowls are full
• Plan Your Day - schedule outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day
• Dress For the Heat - wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose fitting clothes
• Seek Cool Environments - spend time in air-conditioned buildings during the hottest hours, visit public spaces like our amazing public libraries or cooling centers if your home lacks air conditioning
• Check on Vulnerable Groups - keep a close eye on children, the elderly, pets, and those with chronic health conditions who are more susceptible to heat stress
