This one was a long time coming! Today, the Fulshear Simonton Fire - ESD 4 Board broke ground on our downtown station (Station 5). This one will showcase the architectural history of Fulshear and will be the gem of downtown.

Thank you to Chief Boeker and Brandi Crone for all your hard work and dedication on this project. Thank you to PGAL for designing the station, and thank you to Bass Construction for what will be a great construction project.

Commissioner Vincent Morales has put his trust in our board and I’m grateful for his confidence in us.

The station will take 12-18 months to construct, and the cost will be around $8 million.

We continue to grow and this groundbreaking is just the next step in our march forward. We have another station currently under design in Bella Terra and are actively searching for land for 2-3 more stations.

We are proud to serve the community and I am so proud to serve our community’s bravest - our wonderful firefighters.

Exiting day for our department! Station 6 is officially open for business. We will hold an official ceremony later on this month.

Today at 1pm Fulshear Simonton Fire Department placed Station 6 in-service to serve the Jordan Ranch area of the district. This has been a long term project and part of the districts strategic growth initiative. Later this month FSFD breaks ground on an additional station in downtown Fulshear and another station is in design phase for the Bella Terra area. A formal grand opening for Station 6 will be announced soon.

This week, we approved our tax rate and budget. There is a lot of talk from certain politicians regarding “out of control spending” on the local level, but that is not the case with my department. Payroll and benefits make up 2/3 of the budget and nearly 90% of the operating budget. Our debt makes up most of the rest. The debt consists of vehicles and our stations, and just for reference, when I first got on the board, a basic fire truck cost about $750k. It is now over $1.5 million. A fire station would be in the area of $4 million. That same station is nearly $8 million today. I started in 2020, so it’s not like it was that long ago, and prices for things have doubled.

I’m proud of what the Fulshear Simonton Fire Department is doing, and I hope those that say your local governments are out control look at us and see that that is not always the case. We’re fiscally conservative, managing the growth as best as we can, and genuinely concerned about putting the best team on the ground to protect our citizens.

Big kudos to my friend, Donnie Dishaw, for rescuing this little one and finding someone to adopt her!

Yesterday someone dropped a kitten off in our parking lot. We aren’t really equipped to care for young animals but our guys jumped in and made it feel safe, fed and watered it until we could find a more suitable home. While the guys became somewhat attached, we were relieved when Commissioner Dishaw came through with a friend to give the kitten a second chance on life. Special thanks to Jenny for adopting our new little friend. Please don’t dump animals at the fire station.🐾.

Today the board of the Fulshear Simonton Fire - ESD 4 Department reviewed the bids for construction of the downtown Fulshear station and made the decision to select Bass Construction for the project.

Bass has an exemplary track record and I’m excited for this station to be under way. It will be a gem for downtown Fulshear and the surrounding area.

Fire Department Update:

This week, our board met and had some very productive conversations. We are continuing to grow at a fast pace, and it won’t let up once the Hines development south of 1093 opens up. With the continued influx of residents, we have a need for more stations.

We are moving forward with our Jordan Ranch station and will open that up later this year. There are some major hurdles regarding utilities, but I’m confident we will work through it.

Our downtown temporary station will open up next week, once again providing close coverage to the downtown Fulshear and 359 corridor. We hope to break ground on the permanent station in the near term.

Our Bella Terra station is in the design phase, and while I haven’t seen drawings yet, I do hope the board will see something preliminary soon. This station will serve as a great mutual aid station and will house a ladder truck.

Speaking of ladder trucks… our current ladder caught fire and is in the shop. Chief Boeker asked for funding to purchase a new ladder, which will replace our crispy one. This will run a cool $2 million, which is the running rate at this point in time. Lead time for a truck is about 12 months.

All that said, we make more with less. We are building all these stations, hiring personnel, and buying trucks with a 9.5 cent tax rate. On a $500k house, that’s under $500 a year paid in taxes. I’m proud of our department and hope we can continue to maintain the momentum we have. The state has not made it easy, but we will continue to work with what we have and provide the best services in the region.
