The Virginia Department of Health's Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) is responsible for planning and coordinating an effective and efficient statewide EMS system. Our programs and services are designed to assure quality prehospital patient care, from when the call is received by the 911 center to the delivery of the patient to the trauma center or hospital.

The 29th annual Virginia Fallen Firefighters & Emergency Medical Services Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the Richmond Raceway, Main Exhibition Hall.
The Virginia Fallen Firefighters & EMS Memorial Service will be streamed live for those who cannot attend in person. This event is open to the public.
This year's Memorial Service will honor fallen firefighters who have been recognized under the Virginia Line of Duty Act in the past year for their bravery and dedication to the citizens of the Commonwealth.

The Virginia EMS Portal and all applications associated with the portal database (e.g. Mobile App, Course Lookup, EMS Provider Search, etc.) will be down for maintenance Sunday, May 24th from 3:00 a.m. until approximately 10:00 a.m. for an OS patch deployment.

Thursday’s theme is “Save-A-Life Day” to promote CPR and Stop the Bleed. Many times, bystanders are the first on a scene. Save-a-Life Day empowers the public to learn and apply first aid steps that can save a life. Find a CPR or Stop the Bleed training near you!
