On 22 September 1961 the Unit was activated and mobilized in Galax, VA. The Unit was then transferred to Fort Meade, MD on 25 October 1961. They served with distinction until they were released from Active Duty on 10 August 1962. On 21 November 1990 the Unit was activated and mobilized to Fort Pickett, VA in support of Operation Desert Shield. On 02 January 1991 the Unit deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where they served with distinction until released from Active Duty on 10 May 1991. On 16 September 1994 the Unit was reorganized and relocated to Richmond, VA, where we are now, in the Monteith USAR Center. On 07 September 2005 the Unit was activated and mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where they served with distinction until released from Active Duty after serving 545 days of Active service. On 29 November 2009 the Unit was activated and mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where they served with distinction until released from Active Duty after serving 400 days of Active service. The mobilization site was Fort Eustis, VA and we are 30 miles away from a support installation, which is located in Fort Lee, VA.
