Our thoughts and prayers are with the officers, their families, colleagues, and the entire community during this difficult time.
UPDATE: Two Chesterfield police officers remain hospitalized in critical but stable condition after they were shot during a domestic disturbance.
"This is one of your worst nightmares as a chief of police, and it’s one of those things where I’m so grateful that they are alive, and that the men and women at Chippenham Hospital have done an amazing job to keep them alive and doing the work that needs to be done to ensure a successful recovery," Chesterfield police chief Col. Frank Carpenter Jr. said. ⬇️ Details in comments.

Today, we honor those who gave their lives in military service—and recognize a shared sacrifice carried by all who serve.
Earlier this month during National Police Week, we welcomed thousands of families to the Memorial. The names of 363 fallen officers were read aloud as candlelight filled the National Mall.
Because of your donations, these moments of remembrance are possible, and families always have a place to return.
Thank you to the Motorola Solutions Foundation and all who helped us reach our $50,000 match.

In letter to Spanberger, Avula expresses concern about collective bargaining bills
Asked about Avula's concerns, Sen. Scott Surovell, said "the doomsday stuff is nonsense," and noted that the mayor never reached out to him to discuss the legislation.

Today RCOP board members Jason Smith and Levi Manns were able to read to a couple MLK preschool classes! Their excitement, curiosity, and big imaginations made it such a fun and rewarding experience. Moments like these are a great reminder of how important it is to encourage a love of reading at a young age.

National Police Week 2026 is only a few weeks away. While it is a time for mourning and reflection, we also seek to provide a safe space for visitors and survivors to feel and express gratitude for our community, as well as spend some moments in love and laughter.
