Co-governance. Civic participation. Shared power. Democracy in action.
This year, the Richmond People's Budget Commission and staff came together for our annual workshop to reflect on our pilot cycle, celebrate what worked, and take a critical look at where we can improve.
Through thoughtful discussion, transparency, and consensus-building, we're working together to strengthen Participatory Budgeting in Richmond and make the next cycle even better.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue building a more inclusive and resident-driven process.
Our deepest thanks to The Shockoe Institute for allowing us to use their beautiful space

From RVA to NYC 🪙➡️🗽
This weekend, the Richmond People’s Budget team took our signature coin to New York City for a learning exchange with The People’s Money team at NYC’s Civic Engagement Commission.
From Staten Island to Queens, we had the opportunity to shadow voting events, share best practices, and connect with fellow participatory budgeting practitioners working to put decision-making power directly in residents’ hands.
Participatory budgeting is still growing across the U.S., and collaborations like these help strengthen the movement nationwide.
Huge thanks to the NYC Civic Engagement Commission for hosting us and to the The Participatory Budgeting Project for making the connection possible!
