MADISON MATTERS: Meet Mike Edwards for Richmond KY Commissioner

Myron β€œMike” Edwards is running to bring service, accountability, and a stronger voice for residents to Richmond City Hall.

A retired U.S. Marine Corps Major, Mike has spent his life serving others. Here in Richmond, that service continues through his work on the Richmond Human Rights Commission, as Co-Chair of the Richmond Downtown Neighborhood Association, and as a board member for Hope’s Wings.

Mike believes Richmond deserves local government that listens, communicates clearly, plans responsibly, and follows through. He is focused on smart growth, stronger infrastructure, fair and consistent code enforcement, transparent decision-making, and city policies that protect and include all residents.

Richmond is growing quickly, and the decisions made now will shape the city for years to come. Mike is ready to ask the hard questions, bring people into the conversation, and work for a city government that is more open, responsive, and accountable.

MADISON MATTERS: Meet Katie Startzman for Berea City Council

Katie Startzman is running for re-election after serving on council since 2020.

Katie first came to Berea in 1995 to attend Berea College and chose to make this community her home. Since then, she has helped shape Berea as a downtown business founder, community member, and small business coach with the Kentucky Small Business Development Center, where she supports people working to start and grow businesses across the region.

On City Council, Katie brings preparation, experience, and a serious approach to public service. She researches issues carefully, listens to residents, and understands how city decisions affect families, small businesses, neighborhoods, and Berea’s future. Katie is ready to keep serving with respect, good-faith collaboration, and a steady commitment to the people of Berea.

MADISON MATTERS: Meet John Payne for Berea City Council

John Payne is running for re-election after six years of service focused on practical improvements for the community.

A 40-year Berea resident and Berea College graduate, John has spent much of his life serving the people of Berea, including 26 years with the Madison County Public Library. On council, he has worked on infrastructure through the Public Works Committee and quality-of-life improvements as chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee.
