25 Years | One Shared Purpose

Since October 14, 2001, VCU Health’s LifeEvac has answered the call when minutes matter most.

Aircraft have changed, generations of crews have carried the mission forward, but our purpose remains unchanged: caring for people when they need us most.

As we reflect on 25 years of service, we honor the people and legacies that have shaped our history. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the patients, families, communities, partners, and colleagues who have been part of our journey.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Cartersville Volunteer Fire Department on the dedication of their new helipad. The all-weather helipad was made possible by a gift from the Sanne family in honor of longtime volunteer Thomas E. Sanne. In addition, numerous local and regional companies and individuals contributed to project completion.

The helipad is less than a 20-minute flight from multiple medical centers in Charlottesville and Richmond. This trip would normally take an hour via ambulance.

Cumberland County, Virginia has a population of under 10,000 people; and is served by three independent fire companies and one EMS agency.

On October 13, 2001, LifeEvac officially began its mission. Twenty-five years later, we’re celebrating an incredible legacy of service, teamwork, innovation, and lifesaving care — while opening the doors to our newest chapter!

For 25 years, countless flight crews, communication specialists, healthcare professionals, EMS agencies, first responders, community partners, and supporters have helped make LifeEvac what it is today. This celebration belongs to every person who has flown with us, worked alongside us, trusted us with their patients, and supported our mission along the way.
