Earlier this month Richmond Police Department welcomed the 130th Basic Recruit Class!
The 14 recruits participated in robust physical fitness training and an introduction to policing. Last week the class screened the documentary HEARD. This film explores the challenges of living in one of Richmond’s dense housing communities. Chief Edwards presents it to each class to foster understanding and empathy that officers can draw upon in their careers. www.pbs.org/show/heard/

Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day – and on this day it is proper to thank all city staff who have worked so hard during this water disruption – but it is surely a moment to thank RPD officers for a fantastic year of excellent service!
It is also an opportunity to appreciate all that the officers have done to help staff water distribution sites and deliver water to those who called 311. In two days, RPD officers delivered to 600 different locations!

🚨 Due to the current water restoration efforts within the City of Richmond, all police recruitment testing scheduled for Saturday, January 11, 2025, will be rescheduled.
Please be aware that the RPD Personnel and Recruitment Division will be contacting applicants with further information.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time!

The low December sun lit a bright afternoon last week as the 129th Basic Recruit Class participated in crash report training.
As they learn how to take reports at collisions, RPD takes the opportunity to ask everyone to slow down and avoid distractions while behind the wheel.
Let’s keep the rest of this December free from dangerous crashes!
