Rosie The Riveter Trust Rosie the Riveter Trust is the nonprofit partner building a community of support for the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park.

Supporting the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park. Richmond California. In 1997, a group of Richmond citizens formed the Rosie the Riveter Memorial Committee to create a memorial that would honor the women who had worked on the home front during the war. The committee brought together a coalition of supporters to fund the creation of a permanent landscape sculpture and the City of Richmond sponsored an open design competition to select a design team. In October 2000, the Committee dedicated the sculpture in Marina Bay—a former Kaiser shipyard from World War II—with several hundred “Rosies” in attendance. Local leaders formed the Rosie the Riveter Trust, and worked with Congressman George Miller seeking Congressional authorization for a feasibility study to determine whether a national park could be established. Congressman Miller then carried legislation and President William Clinton signed the bill that established the Rosie the Riveter/Home Front National Historical Park on October 24, 2000. Meet Marcella Eichelberger Turnipseed Hubbard, one of our oldest living Rosie the Riveters!

Born in Louisville, Mississippi, on March 28, 1921, Marcella came to California during World War II, determined to do her part for the war effort.

When she was denied access to welding training because she was a Black woman, Marcella refused to give up. Her brother taught her to weld at night, and she passed her qualification test on the very first try! She went on to help build ships in the Sausalito shipyards from 1943 to 1945.

After the war, Marcella continued breaking barriers, becoming an educator and later serving 30 years with the Social Security Administration in Richmond.

In March, Marcella was honored during the National Rosie the Riveter Day celebration, just one week before her 105th birthday, and at the 2026 Rosie Gala on October 3!

Marcella's remarkable life reminds us that the Rosie spirit is about answering the call to serve, overcoming barriers, building opportunity, and inspiring generations to come.❤️ Thank you Rosie Marcella!

Remembering Rosie Ambassador Jeanne Gibson ❤️

A life well lived. A legacy that lives on.

On Saturday, October 17, family, friends, and members of the Rosie community gathered in Pinole, California, to celebrate the remarkable life of WWII Rosie and beloved Rosie Ambassador Jeanne Gibson.

During World War II, Jeanne answered her country's call to service, working at Todd Shipyard in Seattle and later with the Army Transportation Corps in Juneau, Alaska.

After a long career as a teacher, Jeanne continued to serve, this time as an ambassador at Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park, helping ensure that the stories, contributions, and extraordinary spirit of the women of the World War II Home Front would never be forgotten.

We are grateful to have known her, honored to have shared in her remarkable story, and deeply thankful for the legacy she leaves behind.

Honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Today, Rosie the Riveter Trust honors the histories, cultures, resilience, and enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples and communities.

The story of America is made up of many voices, and understanding our shared history means recognizing both the contributions and the experiences of those whose stories have too often been overlooked.

As we reflect on the profound changes that shaped our nation during World War II and beyond, we are reminded that history is something we have a responsibility to preserve, examine, and learn from.

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we recognize that Indigenous history is American history, and that Native peoples and communities continue to shape our nation today. We are glad that you are still here. We stand with you.
